MM6 Maison Margiela Welcomes A Cheerful SS22

MM6 Maison Margiela welcomes you to La Belle Aurore, a beloved Milanese meeting place, to turn to your neighbor and clink glasses; to dine, drink, and be cheerful for Spring/Summer 2022. Consider this collection an exuberant and eclectic celebration of life's return to our cities' pubs, restaurants, and streets; of the surreal, cinematic experience of seeing faces from all walks of life coming together in the same place once more.

It's a mood echoed in the rebelliousness of surrealist women painters like Claude Cahun, Leonora Carrington, and Dorothea Tanning, who inspired the MM6 Maison Margiela team this season. The gravity-defying float of collars and a foulard, lavender-filled teabags worn as pendulous earrings, and ‘broken' pearl necklaces are all examples of their influence.

Peak-lapelled coats are precisely fashioned from a silk-blend fabric the colour or of humble toiling fabric, and opera gloves are the same hue as the pair of Marigolds you use for doing the dishes; swooning satin evening gowns are made in lining fabric with their rough selvedge maintained intact. Sleeves and gloves, emerging from trouser waistbands, bag handles, and even the rear panels of a leather jacket, become crucial vehicles for the collection's surreal overtones, while remnants of the producing process can be felt in a kraft paper bustier and an exquisitely pleated calico ruff skirt.

Where it’s perhaps most evident, though, is in this season’s MM6 Maison Margiela x Eastpak

collaboration. For this sophomore capsule -- available in Spring 2022 -- the offering extends to

faux fur wheeled luggage, ‘dripping’ iterations of the Pak’r backpack, an enlarged shoulder version
