Levi’s WellThread Collection SS20 Puts Sustainability At The Forefront

Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.) is one of the world’s largest brand-name apparel companies and a global leader in jeanswear. Due to their world recognised status, they are also pushing fashion forward into understanding the importance of sustainable fashion. The conversations are vital but what is one better is taking the steps to bring a high level of sustainability into the clothing produced by the historic apparel brand though their fashion subsidiary WellThread. The Spring/Summer 2020 Levi’s WellThread collection features a range of garments that not only demonstrate WellThread’s ongoing commitment to sustainable design and innovation but also responds to the growing demand in the market for sustainable product crafted specifically for women. Wellthread’s core principles of better materials, recyclability, and manufacturing in factories that run Levi Strauss & Co.’s Worker Well-being initiative is developed on throughout the process of bringing the Spring/Summer collection to its consumers. This collection expands the possibilities for the “cottonized hemp” fiber innovation that Wellthread first introduced a year ago, incorporating it into a range of stylish Ribcage fit jeans, an embroidered Trucker Jacket, and a range of tees and hoodies for women in a neutral palette. However, men can choose from the 502™ Slim Taper and Standard Taper fits in indigo and garment dyed-black washes, Trucker Jackets, hoodies, and graphic tees.

Each piece in the new Wellthread collection is made with cottonized hemp. Hemp generally requires less water and fewer pesticides in cultivation than conventionally grown cotton. The hemp blended into these garments comes from rain-fed hemp crops, which reduces water usage even further. It was then treated in a way that softens – or “cottonizes” – the fiber, making it look and feel indistinguishable from cotton. In addition, each piece was finished with techniques which have helped Levi’s save more than 3.5 billion liters of water in the finishing process since they were introduced nearly a decade ago.

As in previous collections, all garments are designed with a future state of circularity in mind, the collection, full of essentials, looks to be a good way to get value in the market while giving you a comfortable fit, between a £20 - £120 price range.
