MR PORTER’s Margarita Experience with PATRÓN For National Margarita Day

There are tastings, and then there are experiences that feel choreographed. At MR PORTER in Mayfair, New Wave stepped into the latter, joining forces with Patrón to explore a bespoke mini margarita flight created in celebration of National Margarita Day. Hidden behind the polished calm of Mayfair’s streets at 22 Park Lane, the restaurant offered a lush and intimate escape from the outside world, its low lighting and rich interiors setting a tone of quiet indulgence.

From the moment we were seated, the hospitality shaped the evening. Staff moved with an assured attentiveness, ensuring glasses were never empty and conversations flowed uninterrupted. There was a natural warmth to the service, a sense that the experience was designed to unfold slowly. As the first pairing approached, the ambiance softened further. The space felt relaxed, almost meditative, as each margarita and dish was introduced with a thoughtful explanation of its flavour profile and intention.

The opening act was the Pink Margarita, a vibrant blend of Patrón Silver, raspberry cordial and lime. Smooth and lightly sweet, it arrived alongside a delicate seabass carpaccio. The pairing was an elegant beginning. The carpaccio’s restrained, clean palette allowed the cocktail to shine, its berry notes lifting the subtle salinity of the fish without overpowering it. It felt like a gentle overture, the kind of combination perfect for easing into an evening or setting the tone for a refined dinner with friends.

The tempo shifted with the Jalapeño Margarita, a fiery mix of Patrón Reposado, mango jalapeño blend, triple sec, lime and Tajín. This arrived paired with yellowtail sashimi that carried its own understated spice. Together, they created a warm and vibrant combustion. The sweetness of mango met the heat of jalapeño, while the sashimi’s subtle kick amplified the lingering burn of the tequila. It was bold without being overwhelming, a pairing made for high energy gatherings and tables that thrive on flavour and conversation.

The final pour, the Momorita, offered a more nuanced crescendo. Crafted from Patrón El Alto, crème de peche, kaffir lime sake, lime and agave, it carried a layered sweetness balanced by bright citrus notes. Paired with a fresh oyster, the experience became textural and oceanic. The brininess of the oyster sharpened the cocktail’s fruit and floral tones, creating a crisp, clean finish. This was a pairing suited to celebratory moments, intimate dates or late evening reflections where indulgence feels deserved.

This experience is for the curious and culturally engaged, those who are seeking the thrill of see food as a form of storytelling and understand that scent can unlock memory in powerful, unexpected ways. Designed for guests who value atmosphere as much as flavour, and for those who enjoy immersive dining that unfolds gradually rather than rushing toward spectacle. If you are open to new textures, layered compositions and quiet boldness, this evening will resonate deeply.

It is not for those seeking excess, oversized theatrics or dining defined purely by portion size. The luxury here lies in restraint and nuance. The experience mirrors the structure of a fragrance, building gently through each course, inviting presence and reflection. Guests unwilling to explore unfamiliar combinations or sit with subtlety may find it outside their comfort zone.

What makes this offering particularly compelling is its feeling of exclusivity. Served in select bars and restaurants across the country, including 1 Hotel Mayfair, MR PORTER, Viajante87 and Louie London, each flight has been crafted in collaboration with the head bartenders at participating venues. No two experiences are identical. From Michelin level precision to Latin American inspired flavours and contemporary twists, each location offers its own interpretation.

At £39, the price point makes the evening remarkably accessible for a concept driven, multi course private dining experience set within a thoughtfully curated environment. It reflects a desire to open the experience to a wider creative community. For those who believe dining can be emotional, sensory and lasting, this is an invitation worth accepting.

As the evening drew to a close, what lingered was not just the taste of tequila but the feeling of considered craftsmanship. The pairings demonstrated how a margarita can evolve beyond a single serve cocktail into a curated journey of flavour and mood that influences conversation at the table. With the experience available only until the end of the month, it is worth taking a trip to one of the select locations to savour it firsthand, before the final glass is poured.
