JW Anderson’s “Twisted Denim” Makes Jeans With Love

Forever at the helm of innovation, JW Anderson is known for making traditional concepts better with avant-garde, special touches. In collaboration with local tradespeople and labels, the brand brings a kitschy-chic flair to a modern fashion and furniture scope. Last week, their latest pursuit was launched in a more personal and intimate way than usual.

In a dreamy American lover’s campaign starring the acclaimed actress Dree Hemingway and her beau Nick Delli Santi, JW Anderson have released a new collection of denim apparel for lovers of a sturdy pair. “Twisted Denim” is a romantic ode to craft and mastery, representing commitment, patience and texture, like a real relationship.

Made with the expertise of longtime denim developers, the new collection was created in Hiroshima, Japan, with creative director Jonathan Anderson’s vision of an elevated and distinct style. ‘Paying homage to the everyday’, this collection sees a classic style adorned by extraordinary detail, bridging worlds across casual and couture.

JW Anderson presents integral and sturdy pieces in this new collection, using 100% cotton and raw indigo dye in the apparel. The Anchor stitched detail is minimalist, purposely allowing the design to speak for itself. Emblematic of a continuation of life, the jeans are made to look worn and distressed, with deep rips and washes including raw and stone.

Within the unisex jeans, the Twisted Workwear and straight leg, the collection honours the importance of heritage and longevity in fashion design. Japanese artisans assisted in the development of basic fabrics into intricately made pieces, including new finishes such as the anchor rivets, orange binding and selvedge seams.

Traditional bookbinding techniques and Boro, a 19th century Japanese hand-patch repair method intended for re-usability, are ‘borrowed’ in the artistry of the collection. Using techniques from customary Japanese art forms, JW Anderson connects the history of workwear with the history of Japanese expertise, as the clothes retell stories of refinement, admiration and closeness.

Womenswear pieces from this capsule include curated adjustments for a 21st century finish. The Womens Drop Front Skirt has an asymmetric hem, an increasingly popular and more modern style of drop for a skirt, with a drape panel on the front once the button is fastened. Created with stonewashed denim, its light colour invites dressing for warmer seasons and a new leather logo patch sits at the waist. Hemingway sported an oversized shirt with the skirt, demonstrating an urban and casual style.

The collection reveres in a light of love, made with a united experience and a respect for artistic history in mind.
