London-based labels Goodhood Store and Folk Clothing join forces in a new collaborative fashion by saluting one of the most talented American cult singer-songwriter and visual art illustrator Daniel Johnston.
In this unique project, the duo constructs an offering of a contemporary capsule collection of interesting imagery on shirts, t-shirts, homeware accessories featuring a selection of Johnston’s best-detailed illustrations. In aid to give thanks for the life and work of the accomplished artist.
Through the hardships and challenges in his life, Johnston did not stop pursuing his passion as an artist and singer-songwriter. He was an outlandish underground idol to kindred outsiders. I suppose this is why London-based brands like Goodhood & Folk felt a connection whilst creating this capsule collection. It was the legacy of Daniel Johnston that needed to be made known.
Despite Johnston's impressive accomplishments, he has encouraged and inspired other artists worldwide to tap into their craft and explore their vision. The two London-based brands unite to let everyone know who Daniel Johnston is an artist and a person are the best brands for the job.
Goodhood and Folk Clothing are delighted to be a part of such a venture. Their mission is to represent Johnston's artistry in style, and what a better way to do it than adding it to a piece of clothing or as a print on an accessory. However, more importantly, by putting this capsule collection together, both brands encourage awareness for mental health as this was a constant battle and struggle for Daniel Johnston in his lifetime.
Instead of allowing the mental issues to take a toll, he found solace in using his music and illustrations as a chance to keep things going, an opportunity to show the realisation of mental health and the impact it has on an individual. And what better way to make that known than a capsule range dedicated to awareness in this collection.
