Forget Minimalism, This LFW Collection Doubled Down on Fun

"Fam Irvoll’s SS26 collection, “Don't You Know I'm Loco,” made a serious case for humour and optimism in a complex world"

"Fam Irvoll’s SS26 collection balanced playful motifs with sharp tailoring at London Fashion Week"

The balance between surreal play and practical lines ran throughout Fam Irvoll's Spring/Summer 26 collection, shown at London Fashion Week under the knowingly chaotic title “Don't You Know I'm Loco”. In a week where many London Fashion Week designers grappled with the economic climate through storytelling, a current of joyful rebellion also ran through the schedule. Irvoll’s offering was a welcome reminder that joy can be a serious proposition.

The strength of the collection was its balance between whimsical spirit and wearable forms. A black shift dress scattered with oversized daisy motifs was cut cleanly enough for life beyond the runway. That same playful logic applied elsewhere; polka dots appeared across shirting and trousers, while sugar-white tulle dresses recalled a sense of prom-night nostalgia. Denim, reworked into a micro dress with vivid, tapestry-style blooms, grounded Irvoll's maximalist tendencies in an everyday context. If her past work sometimes verged on costume, this outing was a clear step towards clothes people want to own.

The collection’s irreverence was reinforced by the models' relaxed movement. This detail spoke volumes about the clothes themselves; unlike more restrictive high-fashion propositions, these were garments designed for comfort and ease, not just for performance. This refusal to separate fashion from fun was cemented by the accessories, which included cartoonish earrings and clunky, sparkle-coated footwear.

In Irvoll’s hands, humour registered as pure intent. The collection made a convincing case that optimism is not a frivolous distraction, but an essential tool. In her world, a daisy-print dress is not an escape from reality; it’s a cheerful, practical way to face it.
