The Sculptural Future of ISSEY MIYAKE EYES Introduces UROKO

ISSEY MIYAKE EYES approaches eyewear as an exploration of surface, rhythm and repetition. The series treats frames as living structures, shaped by movement and light. The result becomes a fragment of contemporary sculpture designed to be worn.

The starting point lies in the ceramic language of Shoji Kamoda, whose scale like motifs and layered textures redefined traditional craft. Translating this sensibility into eyewear required an unexpected fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and advanced 3D printing technology. The digital precision allows for intricately engineered forms, while the artisanal finishing preserves the human touch. It is a quiet negotiation between hand and machine, where innovation amplifies traditional methods.

The construction itself is radical in its restraint. Eight lenses are arranged in sequence, echoing the rhythm of overlapping scales. Each lens features a concave cut, meticulously engineered to sit flush within a compact frame. This precision eliminates visual excess, creating a seamless sculptural flow across the surface. What appears complex resolves into something remarkably clean, defined by clarity of form and architectural balance.

An original brushing process brings the material to life. The textured finish introduces subtle variations across each frame, ensuring individuality within uniformity. As light glides across the brushed surface, depth and dimension shift in real time, reinforcing the collection’s dialogue with movement. animated by its texture, responding to the wearer and their environment.

Within the wider narrative of IM MEN’s DANCING TEXTURE, the eyewear stands as a distilled expression of the theme. It captures the idea that surfaces are never still and that design can hold both discipline and fluidity at once. Through this series.

The model, titled UROKO, will be available in London from March in both black and brown colourways. It will retail at £540 and can be found at the ISSEY MIYAKE - 10 Brook Street boutique in Mayfair. The release anchors this experimental design within a tangible retail moment, inviting wearers to experience its sculptural precision up close.
