Stormzy Returns With Sophomore Album Heavy Is The Head

Since the release of his debut album Gang Signs & Prayers, Stormzy has consistently set new plateaus for UK artists since his hiatus from releasing music. Gang Signs and prayers were widely recognized as a cornerstone of UK Hip Hop, allowing the 26-year-old artist to Headline Glastonbury, an impressive feat for any artist. Stormzy also took this performance to make potent statements in politics and artistry by fully endorsing the Labour Party during the performance and donning a bulletproof vest created by infamous artist Banksy.

Stormzy addresses this time in his life on the record Audacity featuring Headie One. It is no doubt that Stormzy has become the benchmark for UK artists in terms of mainstream success and authenticity. The release of Heavy Is The Head began with the release of the single Vossie Bop in April, which was met with mixed reviews, however, the song reached the top of the UK singles and R&B charts. Shortly after was the single 'Crown' showing Stormzy's vocal diversity and a more introspective record backed by a choir. The Third single, Wiley Flow, is an ode to the grime legend and pioneer, a genre that Stormzy now wears the crown in.

The last offering before today's release was Own It featuring Ed Sheran and Burna Boy, an eclectic mix of sounds that showcase Stormzy's ability to touch many sounds while maintaining his charisma and impact on a song. This record has also reached the top spot at the UK R&B charts, a pop-influenced record dedicated to his female audience. With the enormous stardom of all three artists on this song, it is sure to continue climbing the charts.

Heavy Is The Head is an important Project for Stormzy as the expectations for his music have definitely increased since the release of his previous LP. From turning down features with Jay Z to his philanthropic work, Stormzy has many things to speak on and address. Sonically on this project, Stormzy maintains his aggressive flow and clarity while rapping on instrumentals by producers such as EY, T Minus, !illmind and Executive producer of Stormzy's previous album Frazer T. Smith.

Heavy Is The Head also features some exciting artists as previously mentioned on songs like Own It, however, we can expect vocal appearances by artists such as H.E.R, Aitch and rising star Tiana Major9. The 16 song project is a journey taking you through Stormzy's life over the past 2 years. Along with the braggadocious lyrics, we also are met with songs of love, hope, and struggle.
