Earlier this year, on the 25th of January, the Jazz Cafe played host to a phenomenal New Wave event, setting the stage for a night of incredible performances and unparalleled musicality. The event featured three talented artists, Chrissi, Raheaven, and Khazali, who each brought their unique style and energy to the stage, a testament to the Jazz Cafe's commitment to nurturing and promoting the next generation of artists. The success of the previous New Wave event sets the stage for another incredible experience on the 27th of July, as the Jazz Cafe continues its tradition of curating remarkable musical evenings.

VINCH

Vinch, a rising star in the UK music scene, merges soulful melodies with contemporary R&B and Trap influences. When we spoke with him, he shared his intentions to transport the audience into a realm of musical timelessness at Xscape. With his charismatic stage presence and unique vocal style, Vinch aims to create an immersive experience where past, present, and future intertwine, leaving an indelible mark on the audience's perception of live shows for hip/hop talent.

How do you plan to blend the timeless elements of soulful melodies with contemporary and trap influences for your performance at New Wave?

This is a question I ask myself everyday, even in the sense of just creating. I always want to find different ways of blending my favourite genres and stuff. Come to the show and find out ;)

Can you share any insights into the stories and themes behind the songs you'll be performing?

So I’ll be doing an unreleased song called “crazy lover things” which for me, is a one of my prize possessions in a sense it captures so many versions of me but cohesively and takes the listener on a journey with me, unsure of the destination the journey itself is what we fall in love with.

I have another song called switch which was created for the duality of it. It fits very well in trap spaces but also in far more musical, detailed sounds such as jazz & soul.

How do you aim to transport the audience into a realm of musical timelessness during your set?

I’ve picked songs that I feel have quite ethereal and are very spacey sonically which will definitely take ascend us into a higher realm I picked the songs with this in mind.

Are there any collaborative moments with the APC band or other artists planned for your performance at New Wave?

It wouldn’t be a live performance without the contributions of the band so we’ve got a couple surprised lined up to really make sure everyone’s talents are being seen, heard and felt.

Are there any particular songs that have been worked on specifically for your set?

Yeah there are few that we changed up for the sake of the show and we’ve got an understanding of each other personally and musically so it wasn’t hard to work out

KALI CLAIRE

Kali Claire, a rising star known for her dynamic blend of R&B, pop, and electronic influences, exudes infectious energy and empowerment. NW: What inspired your unique blend of R&B, pop, and afro influences for your performance at New Wave?

KC: I love live performances because they have the ability to transform a song, why stick to one genre?

NW: How do you intend to create an atmosphere of empowerment and joy through your music during the event?

KC: In a room full of singers and music lovers I’ll be in good company

NW: What made you select this set list for the event?

KC: The Jazz Cafe is an iconic venue! I had to do something special

NW: Will you be showcasing any new songs or unreleased material during your set at New Wave?

KC: A new song that I’ll be performing for the first time with a full band! I want you to ft Jaz Karis

NW: What will you be looking to place most emphasis on as a performer for this event?

KC: My latest single ‘I want you ft Jaz Karis’ has never been performed live and I’m excited to be playing with a band!

NW: How do you hope your performance at New Wave will resonate with the audience on an emotional level?

S: I like to think I’ll definitely be able to pull on a few heartstrings!

NW: What is one thing you want the crowd to take away from your performance at Xscape? S: One thing I want everyone to take away is a little peace of mind. I’d love if we all left our problems at the door and forgot them on our way out.

NW: How important is the live performance aspect of being an artist for you? S: Very! It’s the only chance we get to connect with fellow music lovers face to face, and in the moment.

NW: Are there any special elements or surprises planned for your set at New Wave?

S: We’re just gonna have to wait and see.

NW: You tend to record yourself doing acoustic performances, how do you think this will be different with the crowd's reaction? S: I feel most comfortable with a guitar in my hands. That comfort allows me to put some finesse on my performance which I hope people will enjoy!
