Gilles Peterson-backed Talent Development Scheme Future Bubblers Announce Candidates for Year 7

Running for their seventh year, 10 unsigned artists have been given the exciting opportunity to work with music heavyweight Gilles Peterson as a Future Bubbler. With the scheme being made possible by the Arts Council England and Brownwood Studios, Future Bubblers exists to showcase unsigned talent and support for each of the artists through mentoring, workshops and professional advice.

With the talent development scheme running each year, it gives a platform to rising musicians across the UK to display their art with a compilation album created at the end of their mentorship. With the main goal of Future Bubblers to uplift those who create music within the underground and alternative music scene, they also actively seek out talent outside of London. With each Bubbler paired with a mentor most suited to their needs, they receive one-to-one production workshops provided by Ableton, the opportunity to perform at Future Bubblers showcases, recording sessions at Brownswood Basement, press shots to update their profiles as well as professional advice about the music industry including PR and radio even after their mentorship ends.


The new selection of Bubblers comes after the release of 'Future Bubblers 5.0', a compilation album that includes an assortment of tracks from the previous years Bubblers, featuring an assortment of talent and genre.


The 10 newest Future Bubblers are as follows:


Paired with mentor Dave Okumu, Romy Nova is a multifaceted artist influenced by jazz, hip-hop and world music to create effortlessly dreamy harmonies as well as bilingual lyricism. As she combines themes of fierceness and vulnerability, her music is artistic, abstract and satiny to the ear.


Mentored by Duncan Ellis, Nouria is an experimental musician, producer and vocalist who creates soothing harmonies that draw from her Senegalese and Guinean roots. As she combines groovy baselines and catchy riffs, Nouria plays with a variety of instruments and sounds to create her sounds.


LANDEL is an alternative R&B artist who incorporates themes of love and relationships within his music. As he is driven by an unapologetic approach to music by displaying a variety of sounds within his music, his genre-fluidity doesn't define or confine his music to one label. Hailing from Birmingham, LANDEL has been paired with mentor Janelle Fraser.


Singer/songwriter Ney Lisa moved to London from Stockholm in an effort to further immerse herself within the music culture as she draws influences from the 90s and 00s trip-hop and garage sound. Paired with mentor Emily Kendrick, Swedish pop first inspired Ney Liqa to start writing music, and she wrote her first track at aged 14 to apply for music school.


Mentored by Alex Patchwork, Coex began his musical journey from a young age by playing piano and acoustic instruments and jumping onto the London indie scene as a drummer aged 15. Fusing ambient, punk and grunge sounds to create his own unique musical identity, Coex would use his music and songwriting as a form of therapy but has now reinvented himself after discovering synths.


By beginning his musical journey at the age of 12 by joining a local punk band and using his hometown of Sheffield as inspiration, Jackie Moonbather is a genre-bending DIY artist who touches into hip-hop grooves and creates infectious melodies within his music. Paired with mentor Ellie Best, the singer/songwriter will be continuing to build on his distinctive sound as a Bubbler.


Siân Arli (Arli)

Paired with Hannah Petter, Arli first came onto the scene in the as a Grime MC in the early 2000s and is back to making music after a ten-year hiatus. Whilst this break allowed her to explore more sounds and ways to create, she as also able to experiment with a multitude of electronic styles that showcase her ability and identity.


With his soundscape lying between jazz and electronic, Michael Diamond refused to be bound to one genre as he brings a refreshing and melodic sonic to electronic music that moves away from the typical underground scene. Originally from Kerala, India, Michael Diamond is now based in Oxford and holds a scholarship in music. He has been paired with mentor Aaron L for the duration of his time of being a Bubbler.


As Marysia is classically trained on the harp, the polish-born harpist-beatmaker-producer uses her talents with instruments and fuses them with electronics. With her journey beginning when she was six years old and moved to London when she was 10, Marysia's musical view blends classical, jazz, ambient and electronic. Marysia is also a member of Levitation Orchestra and will be mentored by Commodo.


Based in Leeds, Pertrelli Purple is an artist and producer who has described his sound as "miscellaneous north” because of his northern accent and cities that he has visited. As he began delving into the music world at 10 years old by playing guitar and discovering grime as a teenager, he began listen to hip-hop and all other sorts of genres as a DJ and producer. Paired with Seb Smith, Pertrelli Purple has found support with community radio stations such as on Reprezent and Balamii.
