anaiis in Full Bloom On Her Latest Album Devotion and The Black Divine

anaiis has returned with a new body of work titled Devotion and The Black Divine. Central to the album is the theme of motherhood. The result is music that soothes and unsettles in equal measure, filled with moments that affirm self love and others that stretch her voice into new territory.

Recorded live to tape, the project carries a sense of immediacy and honesty. It is less about perfection and more about capturing the movements of intuition and change as they happen. The experience of Motherhood has reshaped anaiis’s relationship with creativity and deepened her sense of grace. It has taught her to hold space for transformation while remaining open to uncertainty.

The single “Moonlight” gives a clear sense of the record’s intentions. It is a message to a younger version of herself and to those coming after her. In the song she insists that dreams can be as expansive as you allow them to be. Permission to be limitless, she suggests, is something you must grant yourself rather than waiting for the world to offer it. Film and image have always been important to her storytelling. Working alongside her partner Tayo Rapoport and collaborators including Ronan McKenzie, she builds visual worlds that balance the real and the surreal. The video for “Moonlight” was created in a red quarry in Jamaica, a site that once bore the scars of excavation. Now showing signs of renewal, the landscape becomes a powerful metaphor for healing and regeneration.

Across the album the true subject is emotion itself. The songs trace the way feelings shift and bend over time, like a tree adjusting to the environment around it. Growth, anaiis suggests, is rarely straightforward. The record offers a reminder that life is not about certainty but about moving with courage through what cannot be predicted.

Devotion and The Black Divine stands as a meditation on that journey. It invites listeners to witness transformation in motion and to find beauty in the process of becoming.
