The Ganni x New Balance collaboration made an unexpected comeback on the runway

Ganni is one of the few companies that has a firm hold on the fashion industry. So when the Danish brand teams up with another powerful brand like New Balance, you know it will be pleasant —and sell out really quickly.

It was what happened in 2022 when the brand linked forces to develop its first sneaker collaboration targeting people with a Scandinavian sense of personal style( something edge with a unique cool sense). Clearly, it worked and it was an immediate success since they united again for an unexpected collab on Runaway.

The brand collection "Hello, World!" marked the end of Copenhagen Fashion Week's spring/summer 2024 season, with a collection that included eco-conscious denim pieces, winter-to-spring transitional knitwear, and surprise everyone - the official reveal of a second New Balance collaboration.

Presenting a spin on the racing styles of the 2000s, there are three fresh-off-the-runway Ganni x New Balance pieces, proving to observers that fashionable sneakers are a must-have in every person’s wardrobe. They are also manufactured from Earth-friendly materials, including recycled plastic, which is marvellous to behold.

The inspiration came mostly from pop culture, as evidenced by the use of yellow as the main colour and the intricate craftsmanship on the textured mesh upper and rope laces. Ganni’s creative director, Ditte Reffstrup has redesigned the 1906R sneakers - originally released in 2009 and maintaining their popularity ever since- in vivid bright yellow and a more pastel egret with minor logomania infiltrating the designs' underlays. To address the growing popularity of low-profile and thin sneakers, the RC30 is the other shoe in the co-branded capsule which follows the same style with a quirk - it is an all-black sneaker with yellow marks.

Some features are the handcrafted style applique at the heel, a colourway implementation in two tones separated, and designed 'G'( for Ganni) in rope laces. The sneaker also combines incredible technologies with an ABZORB midsole that softens the impact providing stability with the bottom in leather/ mesh and the N-ergy outsole delivers significant absorption delivery more comfort for customers.

Ganni x New Balance 1906R sneaker is available on both Ganni’s and New Balance´s websites (as well as some stores for both brands). While for the model RC30 Trackster is available exclusively with Ganni in-store and online.

For the campaign, Suerynn Lee, a New York Times cartoonist, captured the fiery spirit of this collab. Lee reimagined classics and played on everyday athletics, from GANNI creative director Ditte Reffstrup, New Balance ambassador, and tennis superstar Coco Gauff. The campaign is visible on billboards in big cities such as Copenhagen, London, and New York.
