Lucas Beaufort And Anon Explore The Power Of Human Connection Through Art

French visual artist Lucas Beaufort brought his distinctive visual language to London on 15 and 16 October for the launch of Encounters with Lucas Beaufort, a collaboration with Anon, the snow sports brand under Burton Snowboards. Spanning helmets, goggles, accessories and apparel, the collection draws on Beaufort’s longstanding relationship with skateboarding, snowboarding and the communities that surround them. Rather than approaching the project as a conventional design collaboration, Anon created an opportunity for the artist to spend time with its team and athletes, allowing the people and experiences behind the sport to inform the work.

Speaking about his creative philosophy during the activation, Beaufort explained how his love for skating, snowboarding and, above all, people continues to shape his art. His practice has developed through years of travelling, meeting strangers and forming friendships across creative communities, with these encounters providing the foundation for his visual storytelling. Whether painting skateboards, snowboards, ramps or large scale murals, his work reflects the belief that some of the most meaningful ideas emerge organically through shared experiences. For Beaufort, the people he meets are not simply subjects or sources of inspiration; they are fundamental to the way he understands and creates art.

A recurring character sits at the heart of Beaufort’s visual identity, appearing repeatedly across his work in different arrangements and compositions. The character is replicated over and over again, with lines connecting the individual figures to one another, creating a visual network that suggests movement, interaction and belonging. While each figure maintains its own presence, the connections between them make the composition feel like a collective portrait. The motif serves as a metaphor for the similarities people share, despite their different backgrounds and experiences, suggesting that we are all connected by common interests, emotions and encounters.

This philosophy made Anon a natural partner for the project. Skateboarding and snowboarding have always been about more than the equipment or the pursuit of progression; they are also shaped by the friendships, shared challenges and communities that develop around them. Anon’s helmets and goggles are designed to support riders as they navigate the mountain, while Beaufort’s artwork brings a human dimension to the products, celebrating the relationships that make those experiences meaningful. The collection translates the brand’s connection to snowboarding culture into a visual language that extends beyond performance, placing community and creative expression alongside function.

The collaboration began in Oregon, where Beaufort spent time with Anon athletes Sam Kuch, Michelle Parker and Nick Russell. Through shared meals, conversations, mountain biking and creative sessions, he gained a closer understanding of the people behind the sport and the experiences that unite them. These interactions informed the collection, allowing the artwork to develop from genuine encounters instead of a predetermined visual brief. The process reflects Beaufort’s belief that creativity flourishes through openness and human connection, with the resulting designs carrying traces of the relationships formed throughout the project.

To celebrate the launch in London, Anon brought the collection to Clara’s Wine & Bistro on 15 October, where Beaufort painted the restaurant’s front window and invited guests to participate in the creative experience over dinner. On 16 October, the activation continued at The Snowboard Asylum in Covent Garden, where he painted the shopfront and connected with members of the wider ski and snowboard community. Across both days, Encounters with Lucas Beaufortbecame an expression of the ideas underpinning the collection: that art can bring people together, that shared passions create lasting relationships, and that our differences do not diminish the connections we have in common.
