Sunsets, Sounds & Skylines: An Evening at the Código 1530 Penthouse in Shoreditch

Last Friday, New Wave was invited to the Código 1530 Penthouse takeover on the rooftop terrace of the Aethos Hotel in Shoreditch. With its stunning views and luxurious interior, The Penthouse is an immersive cultural experience, aiming to reflect and celebrate the rich Mexican heritage and history behind each bottle of Código 1530 premium tequila.

Following the initial launch party on 25th June, the Penthouse will be hosting events every Friday and Saturday until 11th July: Fridays are for the weekly Sunset Sessions. Upon arriving, guests were given 3 drink tokens each for use at the exclusive Código cocktail bar. The Penthouse itself was decorated with intricate Mexican artwork and decor, and the sweeping views of the East London skyline from the rooftop terrace were stunning on a sunny summer evening.

The musical lineup last week was curated by Paul Byrne’s Test Pressing, and the evening opened with a set from London-based Apiento, followed by NTS Radio’s Flo Dill, and closing with Alex Nut. Particularly special was that the artists were specifically tasked with showcasing diverse sides of their collections that are seldom played in regular sets, making for an intimate and unique listening experience. With the audio being powered by Spiritland’s hi-fi speakers (formerly used in the Royal Festival Hall), the soundscape was truly immersive — if not for the smattering of clouds, we almost forgot we were in London!

With artists such as Moxie and Sofie K of Small Talk having already played, the final installment of the Sunset Sessions will be this Friday 10th July, and will feature Rhythm Sections’ Scarlett O’Malley and MLE. Guests who venture to the Penthouse on Saturday 11th July are also able to enjoy the culinary delights of celebrated chef, Karla Zazueta, who has created various Mexican-inspired menus rooted in regional traditions, seasonal British produce, and open-fire cooking.

The Código Penthouse is a wonderful place to unwind, relax, and soak up the evening sunshine — all while enjoying a little Latin American flair.
