Rasharn Powell and Ojerime Combine together to Create Sensuous R&B Track 'Play 2'

Two of the UK’s most unorthodox vocalists the East London native Rasharn Powell and South London’s very own songstress Ojerime collaborate on a new single, ‘Play 2’. Capturing a futuristic R&B sound, their seductive vocals run through the song creating a sensual back and forth effortlessly.

Rasharn’s emotive tone is low and filled with tension providing a dark feel to the song that’s supported by Ojerime’s voice delivering mesmerising lyrics likes “chilling like a villain” on a beat that’s produced by Niels & Sam Taieb.

The song was created in the very first session the artists had, a collaboration well overdue and resulted in the bringing together of two undeniable talents who are at the forefront of the genres renaissance that in recent years has been overlooked.

Rarsharn: “This song speaks for itself in regards to the feeling it brings. It rumbles through your body and it’s a side I haven’t shown. I’m excited for this side. To be accompanied by Ojerime, who I’ve always had a crazy amount of love for, is even better.”

Rounding 2021 off with his debut project, ‘Dusk & Dawn’ showcased a collection of Rasharn’s stand out singles from throughout the year, closing that chapter of his life perfectly.

Now kicking off a new era, he is working on up and coming releases and is more inspired than ever after finally giving up his 9-5 and throwing himself totally into his art. The London based vocalist is pioneering his own sound which combines vintage with contemporary, DIY with polished, challenging the status quo through everything he does.

Together the singer/songwriters have co-signs from the likes of; Jamz Supernova, Rebecca Judd,

Rickie Melvin & Charlie, Target and many more. Rasharn ended 2021 on a huge high, selling out

his first-ever headline show at COLORS Hoxton as well as throwing a charity rounders tournament in

aid of Black Minds Matter, putting a spotlight on a subject close to his heart.

The music video was filmed in LA and co-directed by Rasharn. The stylistic black and white video sees the pair playfully using movement and shadows to enhance the intimacy felt through the lyrics. Speaking on the video Rasharn said: “This video lifts us out of this world in a similar way the song does. It’s kinda extra terrestrial. The natural shape of the boulders seems similar to Play 2’s artwork, mirroring the contouring of our bodies. It adds a different view to the sensuality of the song plus I’ve always wanted a video in the desert.”

‘Play 2’ is the first release of the year for both artists and sets the standard for what is to follow. To coincide with the release, Rasharn has created a highly addictive,interactive game involving the artwork - there will be awards for the fastest time.
