Pusha-T Proves His Legacy Once More With New Album 'It's Almost Dry'

It can so often be the case when an artist takes a brief hiatus from the game that they run the risk of never hitting the level of consistency that they were used to prior to their break, but it appears that Pusha-T, with his new album It’s Almost Dry has dared to walk the line of uncertainty without even breaking a sweat. The New York born and raised rapper has returned to the industry in the most nonchalant manner, to the point where it feels as though he’d never been away, although with his return, it now feels as though we’re in the presence of an artist who is running at the very top of his game.

It’s Almost Dry was developed over the course of multiple lockdowns, with the record consisting of tracks that sway between two key figures in Pusha-T’s life in Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, both of which assisting in creating a truly incredible body of work. The way that you can almost identify a Pusha-T beat before he even begins to rap on it is a testament to the duo’s producing style, and a nod to their extensive knowledge and friendship with the Bronx-based rapper. What’s more, when combining the prolific producer's beat making skills, along with Pusha-T’s raw, passionate and concise rap style, the record makes for an excellent listen throughout.

It wouldn’t be a classic Pusha-T record if it was bereft of his reluctance to steer away from his infamous past reputation as a ferocious drug dealer, a now gimmick that never fails to amuse. His past life is often intertwined comically throughout It’s Almost Dry as he refers to himself as the “cocaine Dr. Seuss” in ‘Let The Smokers Shine The Coupes’, and in ‘Diet Coke’, where Pusha exclaims “You ordered diet coke, that’s a joke right?”. However, occasionally the album lends it hand to a slightly more serious tone in ‘I Pray For You’ featuring Labrinth and MALICE. With this being said, the album is also never overpowered by the strong array of features throughout with collaborations consisting of artists such as Jay-Z, Don Toliver, Pharrell Williams, Lil Uzi Vert, whilst also featuring supposedly last ever collaboration between Kid Cudi and Kanye West following their exhausting ongoing Pete Davidson feud. On the whole, despite the collaborations, Pusha T’s voice is still exceptionally prevalent throughout, yet it remains nuanced in creativity and efficiently balanced the whole way through.

Despite already being an incredibly established artist, and one of the most respected in the industry, it still feels as though Pusha-T has developed an extra added sense of maturity into his music, and in return has produced a body of work that will inevitably end up as a timeless classic. It’s Almost Dry is an exceptional addition to Pusha-T’s already incredibly impressive catalogue of music.
