Alluring, haze filled and wholly mysterious, are three words to describe Ojermie's new single 'Alarming' and her music in general. On the track the songstress wields her low toned captivating voice with subtlety, sitting just above the track’s full-bodied instrumental with a reminiscent sound of female 90s R&B groups SWV and 702 but still uniquely belonging to her. The production is made up of smoke-laden guitars looping throughout in the background, adding texture.
Ojerime’s exceptional lyricism shines through the track's compositional tapestry, dealing with the emotional tug of war when the object of your affections is also the one hurting you most. The track is about feeling everything when you want to feel nothing. Ojerime goes through the pain of betrayal from the object of her affections, and the emotional tug of war that it incites. She manages to weave, a seductive yet melancholy tale of someone who is always dragged back in despite the warning signs. It's dark, twisted, and threatens to overwhelm listeners.
In recent years, London’s Ojerime has championed the underground scene of modern R&B, with tracks such as ‘Give It Up 2 Me’ and ‘Jetset’ creating a new blueprint for how the genre is built. She has also just completed a sold-out US tour and has found admirers from the likes of Rosalia and Kaytranada.
Always looking to explore her artistry further it's one of the reasons why she is one of the genre’s most beguiling new contemporary icons and also why we cannot wait to hear what else she has in store for the future.
