Normani gives us just the push we need with her new single “motivation”!

The songstress Normani has amazed everyone with her new release yesterday along with the official music video. The artist who is well-known for being part of the prestigious girl group “Fifth Harmony”, has shown us yesterday why we need to pay attention to her! The song “motivation”, is a very catchy pop record co-written by the talented Ariana Grande. Normani’s strong vocals on the song is complimented by the upbeat instrumentation. The song caught the attention of many female artists such as; Jojo, Ciara, Kelly Rowland and Missy Elliott to name a few. The music video is a standout with many memorable scenes which have been trending on twitter. The music video exposes Normani’s dancing abilities as she performs tricky choreography comparing her to the likes of Beyonce.

The first scene in the music video is of a “younger”, Normani rushing to her living room to watch the popular urban show during the 2000s BET “106 & Park”. We listen to the presenters announce Normani’s song to be “one of the fastest videos to rise to the top of their countdown in the history of BET’s 106 & Park”. While we watch this scene, we realise Normani was once that little girl watching BET’s 106 & Park with a dream to one day have hit music videos and songs. Normani is now making that dream a reality, whilst we see her referencing and paying homage to the 90s and 2000s.

We see references to Beyonces’ “Crazy in Love”, music video and possible inspiration from the likes of Ciara, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Brandy and Janet Jackson. The visuals are allowing viewers to reminisce with scenes in the video hinting towards our most favourite music videos from the 90s and 2000s. It’s by no surprise that Sean Bankhead was involved with the choreography of this music video with his RnB, Neo-Soul, Jazz and Funk genre inspired choreography. Sean has worked for the likes of Beyonce, Britney Spears and more gaining recognition for his craft.

To dive even deeper with the music video Normani’s outfits also reflect the 90s and 2000s era. Written in the memorable graffiti type writing on one of Normani’s outfits is “1996”, which is the year she was born. Overall, the music video is a great representation of the prior music videos, styles and fashion.
