Nix Northwest Takes 'The Occasional L' In New Track

Taken straight from his debut album Xin's Disappearance, London-based rapper and producer Nix Northwest effortlessly blends elements of jazz, hip-hop and spoken word in his new track via Well Overdue Recordings.

'The Occasional L' comes after his standalone single 'Drive Slow' which only grew his cult fanbase after having a successful run with debut EP Life's A Bitch, I Just Need an Early Night back in 2019. This first look into his new project Xin's Disappearance follows a protagonist 'Xin' which is Nix in reverse, as he embarks on a journey out of the city to pursue a greater purpose, leaving behind the pressures and temptations it has. This woozy single perfectly encapsulates what Nix Northwest is all about and what he has to offer as he shows off his strong influences from jazz, hip-hop and soul.

By being surrounded by a variety of music from a young age, Nix Northwest learnt piano and guitar which spurred a passion for him to start writing his own music. As he wrote raps and made beats in his early-teens, Nix Northwest eventually met Lausse The Cat, in which the pair collaborated on a handful of tracks, building his popularity from Soundcloud producing intricate tracks and introspective bars. Since then, Nix has involved himself in a range of projects as both an artist and producer and pairing up with popular names such as ENNY and KeepVibesNear.

"’The Occasional L’ is a song which reflects upon the feelings of being romantically rejected,” he says. “However, instead of mulling over his damaged ego, Xin brushes it off and moves on -reminding us that we all have to take an occasional L."
