Mezzogiorno by Francesco Mazzei Brings the Soul of Southern Italy to Corinthia London

Corinthia London introduces Mezzogiorno this November, a new culinary venture from acclaimed Italian chef Francesco Mazzei. Taking over the hotel’s former Northall Restaurant, Mezzogiorno captures the warmth and vibrancy of Southern Italy, reimagined through Mazzei’s Calabrian roots. The restaurant’s name, meaning “midday” in Italian, reflects the sun-soaked temperament of the South, but also the joy of gathering for good food and company. Designed as both a destination and a feeling, Mezzogiorno brings a touch of Mediterranean soul to London’s refined dining scene.

Drawing inspiration from Calabria’s rich gastronomic heritage, Mazzei’s menu celebrates the honest simplicity of southern cooking with an elevated edge. Expect bold, heartfelt flavours from creamy ricottas and fragrant citrus to the unmistakable heat of Calabrian chilli. Signature dishes such as Umbrian White Truffle Tortelli, Scottish Crab with Tuscan Panzanella, and Bistecca alla Fiorentina deliver a balance between Italian authenticity and British seasonality. By sourcing 70% of ingredients locally, including Welsh lamb and seafood from Scotland, Mazzei ensures freshness and reinforces his dedication to sustainability and close-knit supply chains.

A master of modern Italian cuisine, Francesco Mazzei has spent decades shaping the way London dines. Born and raised in Calabria, he trained in Rome before making his mark across some of the capital’s most celebrated restaurants, from L’Anima to Sartoria. His new project at Corinthia brings him full circle, uniting the heritage of his upbringing with the sophistication of his adopted city. For Mazzei, Mezzogiorno, it’s a love letter to the way Italians eat, “It’s about laughter, conversation, and generosity,” he says. “I want people to feel at home, like they’ve joined my family table.”

The setting mirrors the spirit of the menu which is warm, characterful, and deeply rooted in Southern Italy’s aesthetic. Conceived by Afroditi, the space combines the faded grandeur of Calabrian palazzos with modern elegance. Sunlight spills across terracotta walls and veined marble by day, while in the evening, Murano chandeliers and candlelight transform the dining room into a romantic haven. Guests enter through a lively kitchen, greeted by the rhythm of chefs at work, before stepping into a space that feels both nostalgic and new. With Mezzogiorno, Corinthia London and Francesco Mazzei craft an experience, one that celebrates the joy, flavour, and generosity of Italian life.
