Little Simz Enters a New Sonic Shift In Club Culture with Sugar Girl EP

Little Simz has never been an artist interested in standing still, and her new EP Sugar Girl is another bold pivot in an already shape-shifting career. The four-track project arrives as a sharp burst of energy, trading predictability for movement, experimentation, and freedom. Across the EP, Simz leans into club textures and fast-moving production while still maintaining the precision and storytelling that has made her one of the UK’s most respected lyricists. Reuniting with producer Jakwob, Sugar Girl captures the adrenaline and spontaneity of late-night DJ culture, reflecting the electrifying atmosphere that has increasingly become part of Simz’s recent live performances.

The project’s collaborative spirit also marks a new chapter in her sonic world. Featuring appearances from JT, 070 Shake, and Deela, the EP thrives on contrast and chemistry, moving fluidly between hard-hitting rap moments, hypnotic electronic production, and emotionally charged melodies. One of the standout moments comes through “GAME ON,” which first exploded into public consciousness during Simz’s Weekend One performance at Coachella. The track instantly became one of the most talked-about moments of the festival after JT made a surprise appearance on stage, joining Simz live for the performance and sending the crowd into a frenzy.

What makes Sugar Girl particularly compelling is how naturally Simz balances experimentation with intention. While earlier releases often centred introspection and layered narratives, here she chases momentum and release, embracing music designed for physical spaces and collective energy. There is a looseness to the EP that feels refreshing, as if Simz is allowing herself to move instinctively. That freedom translates into some of the most rhythmically adventurous material of her career so far.

The Sugar Girl rollout has also highlighted Simz’s ongoing commitment to spotlighting women across creative industries. Through the project’s visual campaign and social storytelling, she has amplified the work of creatives including HADAK jeweller Maya, Grain and Knot founder Sophie Sellu, sculptor Dulcie Davy, and designer Olive Hooper, using her platform not only to evolve artistically, but to celebrate the women building independent and influential creative worlds around her.
