Harlesden native Kamal. who’s been making waves far beyond his city, brings new heart-wrenching track 'essential'.
'essential' has a romantic undertone typical of Kamal., it concentrates on the termination of a deep relationship that was seen as indispensable. The song's lyrics examine the feelings that come following a breakup, a time for reflection and embracing freedom from the co-dependence of a relationship that can end up taking over your whole life.
The video compliments the track by following Kamal. as he experiences his final 24 hours on earth with chaos roiling his surroundings as he watches and wrangles to decides who to spend his final hours with.
The new single is just a glimpse into what we can expect from his long awaited second EP 'So here you are, drowning', out on March 17th. The EP is the culmination of over two years of writing and capturing the unique experience of struggling to stay afloat, with the title and artwork mirroring the water symbolism that permeates the first mixtape.
Since the end of 2021, when he released his eagerly awaited debut EP, Kamal. has dedicated himself to a life in the studio, expanding his already impressive discography at such a young age with 'essential' following in the footsteps of earlier works including the fan favourite 'homebody' and the Top-40 hit 'Mercury' which he co-wrote with Brit Award-winning rapper Dave.
