Joy Crookes Shares Video For Hit Single '19th Floor' Following Her Two Brit Nominations

One of the most exciting artists to have emerged out of the UK music scene in a very, very long time, Joy Crookes is an artist that brings a beacon of light everywhere she goes. An exceptional storyteller and songwriter, Joy Crookes, through her music documents her life growing up, her Bangladesh and Irish heritage, and utilises her creativity as a tool to understand her own cultural identity.

2021 was an exceptional year for the young artist, the release of her debut album ‘Skin’ catapulted her to becoming a household name in the UK. Over the course of the year, Joy was invited to play Jools Holland’s iconic New Years Eve Hootenanny, and two sold out nights at the O2 Forum Kentish Town, which in turn also saw her nominated for two Brit Awards in Best New Artist and Best Pop/R&B Artist.

Prior to the Brits, Joy Crookes shared the video for her new single ‘19th Floor’ taken from her debut album ‘Skin’ which was released in October via Insanity Records, which landed at number 5 in the UK Official Charts. Speaking about the video, directed by Ebeneza Blanche, Joy explained:

“I loved working with Ebenezer on this video. We wanted to create visuals that were reflective of the complexity and beauty of community, especially the immigrant community within London. The song is a recognition of all the obstacles immigrants have to overcome to build a life in somewhere like the UK, an acknowledgement of the journey that my Grandmother for example had to face to get to the 19th floor of a South London tower block and the heights that she has managed to reach.”

Reminiscent of a young Amy Winehouse, Adele at the start of her career, and most recently, the incredible Celeste, Joy Crookes is the next in line to carry the torch of UK Soul music, and she is absolutely running with it. At the age of just 23, she has acquired a fiercely loyal fanbase, and become a pivotal part of the ever-growing British music scene.
