Haile Returns with Spare Room, a Deeply Personal Solo Debut

Conceived during a time of introspection in the pandemic, Spare Room marks a deeply personal chapter in Haile’s journey, a self-described “intimate capsule collection” that opens a window into his values, and voice. Across seven tracks, the EP weaves together themes of heritage, love, faith and healing, infusing lyrical depth with warm, bass-heavy production and Haile’s textured vocal delivery.

Every track on Spare Room was produced by Haile’s brother, the celebrated producer PRGRSN, recognised for his work with Stormzy, Burna Boy, and more. The brothers craft a rich, contemporary sound that pays homage to the under-discussed legacy of roots reggae and lovers rock, genres that shaped the foundation of Black British music.

The title takes inspiration from a familiar space in many Caribbean households, the spare room: a place that holds memories, conversations, prayers, recipes, and unspoken emotions. The space represents a symbol of preservation, where history and soul quietly coexist.

That connection runs deep in Haile’s lineage. His father, Iauwata Alexander, was part of the prominent reggae group Zabandis, touring the world alongside icons such as Bob Marley, Winston Francis, Dennis Brown, Prince Jazzbo, and Louisa Mark. Spare Room stands as both tribute and continuation, a bridge between generations within his artistic lineage. Outside of his WSTRN Catalogue, Haile built a strong reputation as both songwriter and collaborator, featuring on records with GoldLink, Headie One,Potter Payper, Juls, Tamera, Skrapz, and Chris Brown.

A decade after his debut in the UK scene, Spare Room marks the beginning of a new chapter of full focus, blending his heritage and heart into a body of work that feels like home.
