Formula 1 Brings The Paddock To Austin’s Music Scene

Formula 1 is taking a different route into Austin nightlife this October, turning legendary South Austin venue Sagebrush into The Paddock Bar for the United States Grand Prix weekend. Running from 22 to 24 October, the three night takeover brings together live music, country dancing and comedy, with free public access to a programme that places local entertainment alongside the spectacle of motorsport. With cocktails, cold beers and pool tables completing the setting, the activation offers a more informal alternative to the sport’s usual hospitality spaces.

The choice of Sagebrush is significant. With more than 70 years of history as a live music venue and honky tonk, the establishment represents a longstanding part of Austin’s cultural identity. Formula 1 is using that heritage as the starting point for an experience that connects the international racing audience with the city’s own traditions, allowing the venue to retain its character while taking on a new identity for race weekend.

Thursday begins with two step dancing lessons before Austin country tribute band All Hat No Cadillac performs classics by George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson and Shania Twain. Friday shifts the focus towards House 44, the music collaboration between Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton and Soho House, with country singer songwriter Kameron Marlowe among the announced performers. Additional artists are still to be confirmed, leaving room for the programme to develop as the weekend approaches.

Saturday closes the takeover with comedy from Jack Whitehall, a Friend of F1, between 8:45pm and 10pm, followed by a live set from local favourites Matt Tedder and The Point. The three night schedule brings different audiences into the same space, moving between country music, contemporary sounds and comedy without losing the local spirit that defines Sagebrush.

The Paddock Bar reflects Formula 1’s growing interest in how a Grand Prix can influence a city beyond the circuit. By working with an established venue instead of creating an entirely separate event space, the sport is connecting its global platform with Austin’s existing creative community. The takeover runs from 22 to 24 October, ahead of Sunday’s race, with tickets available through DICE. It is a meeting of motorsport and nightlife that puts the host city’s culture on the programme, not simply in the background.
