Dick & Dom Pair Up To Help Gen Z Solve Student Crisis Using Google Gemini

As artificial intelligence continues to weave itself into every aspect of modern life — from helping us decide what to cook with leftover ingredients to assisting with research for important meetings — many users are still discovering new ways to make the most of these powerful tools.

Google Gemini, the tech giant’s advanced AI platform, is now highlighting how everyday users can apply AI in practical and creative ways across areas such as education, cooking, personal finance, and even emotional well-being. The company’s latest campaign, “Da Rented Flat,” showcases just how versatile Gemini can be.

To bring this campaign to life, Google has teamed up with beloved childhood TV duo Dick & Dom. Their mission? To help their now-grown-up audience — many of whom are navigating university life — tackle one of student life’s most common challenges: getting their rental deposits back. In the campaign, the pair demonstrate how Google Gemini can be used to craft persuasive, well-written end-of-tenancy letters, proving that AI can even make life’s most mundane tasks a little easier (and more successful).

“A whopping 71% of young Brits say they’ve lost part or all of their rental deposit, and 75% admit they’ve avoided end-of-tenancy repairs simply because they didn’t know how to tackle them.”

It’s the guide we wish we had during the times of mould and concerning carpet stains when left to our own devices, it would have prevented stress if we had the very much needed device of artificial intelligence. Not only does Gemini help to write letters to landlords but the camera feature allows users to point the camera at any household DIY task and will recite the equipment and instructions for fixtures around the property, further helping students to ensure any damages can be easily repaired.

Three-quarters (75%) of Brits admit to avoiding small DIY repairs because they didn’t know how to do them. 57% of renters say their biggest worry when moving out is not getting their full deposit back.

New Wave sat down with Dick & Dom at the campaign’s launch event held in the perfectly designed House Party space in Soho. Each room covered in those post-traumatic disasters where fun was had and tools were given to aid the problem, the pair were excited to share their story of working in property and the benefits of today’s new software.

Dick tells us, “With Gemini, you can point your live camera at the problem, like a hole in the wall, and it'll tell you exactly what you need and how to do it and how simple it is, that it won't cost much, so you won't lose your deposit. We've got first hand experience having been through this ourselves, and we are kind of offering a bit of life advice.”

When discussing the pros and cons of AI in its fast paced environment the pair explained why they got involved in the campaign, “ This particular area (DIY)  is absolutely spot on. It's AI working at its best. Whenever there's any kind of new tech coming out, there's always a sense of fear, because we don't know it, because it's new so what we've focused in on is this 100% helpful tool.”
