Dayor Leans Into Escapism On 4-Part EP 'High Life'

Hackney-born singer-songwriter Dayor releases his debut EP High Life, an interal exploration of sensations, feeling and meaning as he aspires to reach his dreams.

Released via Platoon, The 22-year-old taps into to diverse sounds and culture of East London as the young British-Nigeran starts to come to the realisation of what he has to sacrifice and endure to reach mainstream success.

He faces pressure to conform to the music industry but puts his faith in his own distinct style finding pure expression and freedom in his art. The feeling of the project is uplifting however he grounds it his worries and fears that are relatable to someone on the brink of something.

"This EP is about escapism and what that looks like for me at this current point in my life. I’m on a quest for whatever brings about a change in my state of mind and reflecting on the good and the bad that comes with it all", Dayor says.

Soft and uplifting ‘Take Flight’ is atmospheric in it’s production as it reflects the weightless feeling of being airborne. Dayor urges himself and his love interest to let go and escape from the chaotic nature of his life.

‘High Life’ confronts the East Londoner’s naivety as he sings “ I grew up in the city on the east side and it was all I knew all I knew to life.”

However, you also see Dayor open himself up to the world as he admits to his desire to escape his home and experience new things and enjoy a higher quality of life.

‘On Fire’ Demonstrates the smooth grown contemporary R&B as experiments with more subtle and emotive beats as he hones in on a seductive approach. It’s darker toned, as a melodic harp is delicately played in front of low snyths and other sampled harmonious vocals.

Produced by LeMav, he concludes the quartet with ‘Until The World is Mine’, he experiments with a pop/electronic production that is high tone and sharply in contrast against the distorting base.

On the last track he opens up the world, whilst simultaneously narrowing down his focus as he fully embraces his journey and the route he needs to take.

High Life presents Dayor as a new and exciting voice from the UK R&B landscape as the individualist who favours his artistic integrity over short term success, and grabbles to find his own space to expressive his honest vison.
