Singer-songwriter Bel Cobain returns with her new single ‘Pressure To Exist’, a follow-up to her thrilling upbeat jazz-influenced single ‘Leader’ released last year.
Released via BB3, 'Pressure To Exist’ is the first release of this year, and takes a slower and more measured approach that is deeper and more moody whilst losing none of the emotional intensity of previous offerings.
Producer by Danny Diado, you can hear the faint sounds of an electric guitar cutting through the emotive piano-based production. As well as a melodic flute and jazzy percussion.
The soundscape reflects the hazy and darkening emotions that Bel feels as she does her best to try and make sense of the world and all its confusion.
In contrast, Bel’s soulfully languid voice is lilting as she drifts delicately across the beat. Language is used expertly to allow the Londoner to be ambiguous in her meaning.
Taking inspiration from her musical influences such as Angie Stone, Fela Kuti and Jill Scott she daringly comments on the social and outside pressures that we endure to an extent.
Ultimately, she comes to the clarifying view that we, as people are just learning as we go along. This clarification comes in the new space Bel has found since she recently departed inner-city London in favour of the quietness of a seaside town. The relocation has inspired a sudden refreshing introspection that looks to influence her music going forward.
Currently working on a new project, we cannot wait to hear this new development continue to unfold.
