Asake Drops Homecoming Documentary and New Single ‘WORSHIP’ with Visuals

Three years after relocating to Los Angeles, Asake returned to his hometown, Lagos, in December 2025 for five days. This homecoming, documented in a 33-minute-long video and directed by Nigerian YouTuber Korty EO, was released on March 18, 2026.

His arrival was a monumental moment, part of which included the revered Eyo dancers coming to welcome him. Furthermore, the Sungba crooner touched down in Lagos with a lot of his team members, some of whom made appearances in the documentary.

However, not only his homecoming was captured. Reuniting with his loved ones, visiting his alma mater in Ife, reflecting on his career, and revealing how his upbringing shaped his journey are elements that made the documentary personal for the superstar.

Also featuring candid insights from his family, management team, and close friends, the film serves as a window into the true nature of the human behind the “Mr Money” persona.

Mr Money is a moniker that attests to his love for money. He loves money because he believes it enhances liberty. According to him, money solves about 80% of his problems while he’s fine with facing the leftover 20% challenges because life isn’t balanced.

“Very stubborn”, Iya Ahmed, as Asake fondly calls his mother, described her son’s childhood in a phrase. She admitted that she is surprised to see that he has grown up to leave stubbornness for calmness. Asake corroborated her statement by saying that although his parents were strict with his upbringing, he remained a stubborn child.

After Asake finished secondary school in his hometown, Iya Ahmed–in a bid to curb his stubbornness–had gathered money to relocate him to the UK. To her surprise, her son insisted on pursuing his tertiary education in Nigeria, specifically at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

She was against his plan to stay back in the country, until Lala convinced her to allow Asake to study in his preferred choice of institution. She eventually gave in—on the condition that Lala, who was a student of OAU at the time, would be Asake’s guardian in Ife where the school is situated.

Ever since and to date, Lala has been an uncle figure to Mr Money. Originally named Muyideen Oladapo and popularly known as Lala, Lala is a Nollywood veteran who also spoke about Asake in the documentary. He had met Asake before the limelight and because Lala liked his demeanour, he had taken the Joha songster under his mentorship.

“He will be somebody that is remembered forever”, said Alexa Rae Perkins, Asake’s manager. The day Alexa resumed work at EMPIRE was the same day that Asake was signed to the record label and she was assigned as his manager. Although that was in 2022 and Asake’s first time in the US, Alexa revealed that she couldn’t be more willing to continue managing him for years to come.

Mark KP claimed that being Asake’s tour director is the best job he’s ever had in his life because the MMS crooner treats everybody kindly.

Having credited “school” for shaping him into what he’s become, Mr Money visited his alma mater in Ife and the Palace of the Ooni of Ife. Asake performed on the stage of the OAU Amphitheatre, with the students excited to watch a world-famous alumnus of their very own. Juxtaposed with this beautiful sight was a throwback clip of Asake performing on the same stage during his undergraduate days in the department of Dramatic Arts. These two videos reflect his earned ascent to constantly dominating charts.

Later on, he visited the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, where the Ooni commended the musician for upholding their cultural heritage and values globally.

Throughout the documentary, Asake would randomly respond to Korty’s questions with lines from his own songs. This proved that his lyrical prowess goes beyond mere singing and indeed covers profound phrases and sentences that mirror his personal life.

On a conclusive note, the Yoga songster likened himself to water because he believes he’s not made to be in one place or be predictable. He thrives on spontaneity.

While the documentary amassed views and sparked insightful discussions online, Asake hit us with a new single two days after the documentary’s release. ‘WORSHIP’, produced by DJ Snake, was unveiled on Eid al-Fitr—two months after his joint EP with Wizkid.

Although ‘WORSHIP’ wasn’t released until recently, the single debuted live in November 2025 when Mr Money headlined Red Bull Symphonic. The concert was historic because Asake set the pace as the first African artiste to lead the American orchestral showcase.

EDM powerhouse DJ Snake fused sonic influences from his birthplace in Paris, France, and Asake’s hometown in Lagos, Nigeria, while the latter sang soulfully about motivation and faith. The lyrics underline to never dwell on losses and to stay grateful to God in every situation.

“Working with DJ Snake allowed us to create a song that feels universal,” says Asake. “It represents the energy we feel when we connect to something greater than ourselves. I wanted the video to let the music speak for itself.”

To mirror the song’s themes of heavenly transcendence, the music video pivots on symbolism of purity and serenity. Directed by Edgar Esteves, the visual was shot on a beach shore and Asake, alongside a group, was dressed in white clothing.

“The track communicates how we both feel right now. Same energy,” DJ Snake says. “Asake came with the vibe he’s known for, and I didn’t want to overthink it. We just made something honest, something people can feel everywhere”.

While Asake holds the most entries (62) on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs, ‘WORSHIP’ is the latest peek into his highly anticipated fourth studio album MONEY.
