A Sha’Carri Richardson Mini Doc Directed By Bafic & Produced By The Late Virgil Abloh

Ahead of the 2020 Olympics, it seemed as though everyone had only one athlete on their minds; Sha’Carri Richardson. She wanted the world to know who she is and that she was doing things her way, it was working until the 21-year old athlete was disqualified from competing for USA at the games. Understandably, the internet was a split verdict on the fairness of her disqualification and caused upset that we wouldn’t see her energy on the tracks.

Fast forward to 2022, Sha’Carri told her story at one of the world’s biggest film festivals; Sundance. The film that was executively produced by the late Virgil Abloh and directed by Bafic is titled Sub Eleven Seconds. Bafic is an award-winning filmmaker and artist based in London and has had work commissioned by Louis Vuitton, A-COLD-WALL, and Gucci.

The film is a graceful, imaginative take determining the journey of the Texas-born sportsman, achieving her dream of qualifying for the Olympic games. The short film filters the legendary “10,000 hours”, along Sha’Carri’s journey to perfect her craft to run 100 meters in just under 11 seconds.

In the film, Dennis Mitchell, Sha’Carri’s coach says, “The 100 meters is one of the most expressive things an individual can do. Everything that she’s been through, everything that’s happened to her in her life, whether it has been good or bad all comes out in that 10-second period.”

Shot in the USA, was commissioned and produced by Architecture Films, an independent film collective founded by Virgil, Mahfuz Sultan, and Chloe Sultan.

The film premiered at Sundance at the end of January 2022 and was one of the last projects worked on by the great Louis Vuitton Creative Director, making its premiere bittersweet.
