Four years after the summer release of his official debut album 'Where We Come From', Popcaan is back with his sophomore album 'Forever'. The dancehall veteran has been catapulted into international success the past couple years and this album embodies that.
Forever steps away from the music typical of the dancehall genre with universal songs that can resonate with wider audiences. Nonetheless stays true to his Jamaican roots with use of lyricism, slang and beats by producers; Dre Skull and Not Nice.
The first track, “Silence” is a reflective track looking back on his journey to success. He speaks about keeping the same circle, sleepless nights and now entirely being self-sufficient. Similarly, “Firm and Strong” features Poppy giving thanks to God. The album also includes songs with the summery tones we have come to associate Popcaan with. Forever is braced with faith, joy and positivity and is bound to set the vibe for parties to come. Mr Unruly doesn't falter and caters to the slow jam lovers by giving listeners songs like “Naked” and “Wine For Me” which are more on the amorous side.
Afro-beat artist Davido is in fact the only feature on the album, linking up to give us “Dun Rich”. This collaboration is a wonderful mixture of cultures and great to see. With 17 tracks, Forever has a lot to offer.
