We love your new single ‘Would you let me’ … A really, really incredible track, what was the production process like making this song?
Thank you, I like to take my time with the production on tracks, with this one I decided to go for an old school kinda vibe with the female vocalist singing underneath my rapping and the call and response. I write every aspect of my songs even down to the ‘ah yeah ah yeah’ you hear in the song. Everything just comes to me during the creative process, me and my engineer ABiggy, tweak the vocals and pitch it up in certain places to give it more of a sample sounding vibe but there’s actually no sample in the song.
We love your natural ease and finesse on the beat … Something that just seems so effortless for you, was this something you had to work on, or is it really as easy as it seems for you?
It’s actually just my natural flow. I’ve been rapping for a while, so over the years I’ve developed a way I like to just ride the beat in my head, so as soon as the beat is playing/ being made, I basically already have a rough idea of how I’m going to hop on
We love the heavy support you have received so early on in your career … Backed by the likes of BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, Reprezent and many others, what does this mean to you?
I wouldn’t say I received early support in my career, I dropped my first song back in 2013 and I’m still going heavy with it. I’d say now people are starting to notice me a bit more and I’m grateful for it because this is really what I want to do forever. I still dream about being on stage every day and people actually knowing the words to my songs one day.
We love your interest in combining music and fashion … A real niche that sees you stand out from the rest, where do you get your fashion influences from?
I love everything fashion stands for. It allows you to express yourself in another level and feel comfortable. A lot of my influences come from the likes of Pharrell Williams, Asap Rocky, the whole 90s/2000s era & elements from the 70s/80s in terms of styles and fits. I like wearing pieces and putting them together in different ways and I’m always open to trying new things with my fashion. I feel like one thing people don’t like doing is thinking outside the box with what they’ll wear next, so I always like to switch it up.
We love that you have big plans for the future … A great mindset for an artist early in their career, if you could achieve anything within music that you’d look back on in years to come with great memories, what would it be?
One thing I’d love to achieve is selling out the O2 with listeners that have been with me all these years and seeing and meeting them in the flesh. To have people rap the lyrics I wrote when I was the most vulnerable and almost about to give up and have that connecting with people one day, that’s something I want to achieve.
We love your vibe and aesthetic … So vintage yet modern, it is so unique. How did you decide on this style?
It’s all the things that made me who I am, all the vibes I grew up on and I still love to this day. The things that made me fall in love with music and fashion, I’m just bringing it back to those times. I feel like as an artist, going back to what made you love the art, will always bring out the best version of you.
We love how you incorporate others into your work … who can we expect you to feature on future tracks?
I have collaborated with other artist previously and hope to do so in the future, for now I am focusing on growing and establishing myself
We love that you played your first festival … An amazing experience for any artist, what was this like for you?
It was a great experience that I’d love to do again, met a lot of new people and was a great vibe
We love your social media presence … A TikTok big hitter, how do you feel you can utilise this to bring a wider audience to your music?
I feel like TikTok can be used to enhance what’s being said in the music. I bring life to the lyrics, with the content I make around it, so I always try make content that represents my music. It is definitely important in this era.
We love your musical influences … Influenced by the likes of early Drake, Wretch 32 and A$AP Rocky, what did you listen to when growing up to influence your style now?
I was listening to a lot of old school rap, R&B and afrobeat, all these elements can be heard in my music now and I feel like it helped shape my style/sound. I’m constantly trying to evolve my music, so expect the unexpected with what’s coming next.
