YAYA BEY Allows Herself to Dream On New Single 'RAISINS'

Yaya Bey takes inspiration from poet Langston Hughes as she gives up the fear to boldly dream on her latest single ‘Raisins’.

Whether it’s pursuing love or you’re burning ambition for your career, rather than focusing on the end goal or what problems could occur, you need to immerse yourself in the process. There's no time for hesitation, when you're so close to reaching what you truly want.

Signalling her steady rise as one of the most authentic voices in R&B and soul, on ‘Raisins’ Yaya keeps faith when times are tough, and things aren’t going your way. The Brooklyn-based songstress champions resistance and strength with her airy vocals on a comforting but relaxed instrumental produced by the Grammy-nominated DJ Harrison.

The track consists of gentle jazz elements that provide an easy and chilled atmosphere, that compliments with Yaya’s light tone vocals, which complements piano notes are played melodically as an undercurrent to the soft percussion that keeps an offbeat rhythm.

“It’s hard to sum up ‘raisins in a small burb but it’s the pursuit of love, joy and freedom with the full knowing that there will also be pain,” Yaya says of the song.

“It’s a surrender. It’s me giving myself permission to dream. It might not happen. But maybe the real joy is not in the materialization but in the dreaming itself. The name is inspired by a Langston Hughes poem called Harlem where he says ‘What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?’”

This led up to her new album do it afraid, dropping next month on June 20th  released via drink sum wtr label.

Yaya has already performed in London at Omeara but will also perform in Berlin for a one-night show before returning to the US for her tour that will last until the end of September.
