The Godfather and its two sequels make up one of the most iconic film franchises of all time, and the trilogy is still revered to this day. Fans have been crying out for a reboot or a continuation of the story, but up to now, Francis Ford Coppola’s prized work has been off limits.

That could be set to change, however, as it was recently announced that an original novel in The Godfather universe will be released in 2027. Paramount has the rights to the franchise, and a film adaptation could follow.

Even though it has been over 35 years since The Godfather Part III was released (in 1990), the mafia films still live on in popular culture today. As you might have guessed from the book’s title, the story will be told through the eyes of Connie Corleone, Vito Corleone’s daughter.

There have been other novels in the Godfather series written by different authors, but these haven’t been approved for adaptation by Paramount. It has been reported, though, that the studio is interested in expanding the franchise from this new angle, and there’s a strong chance that the new book will lead to a film.

With Paramount’s streaming platform hoping to compete with the major players, the company could use a huge IP like The Godfather to sell subscriptions. However, whatever it does, it needs to be careful not to taint the legacy of the original series.

People who enjoy The Godfather novels can look forward to a new entry that is definitely set to hit shelves next year. As for the film, it’s not confirmed, but there’s a strong chance it could happen. If it does, it could completely reignite The Godfather franchise.
