‘Sunday at Zuri’s’ By Odeal Is The Soundtrack Of 2024’S Summer - A Sonic Escapism Into The Tropics

With his highly anticipated upcoming Europe tour, German-born Nigerian singer-songwriter Odeal is an artist from London who is changing the scene of UK RnB.

Odeal's diverse upbringing between Germany, Nigeria, Spain, and the UK has enriched his understanding of ‘language, tonation, and the concept of human connection, enriching his lyricism and creating a certain depth of artistry that can only belong to an individual who has a global perspective of the world surrounding him.

His four-track EP Sunday at Zuri’s is a collection of tracks of smooth afrobeats inspired by Zuri Awela - at whose beach house in Nigeria Odeal spent a great deal of time, leading to the creation of the project.

This list of tracks takes the listener through a day at ‘Zuri’s’ in the tropics  - beginning with the self-written and produced track ‘Sondela’, describing the ‘arrival’ of him and his lover to Lagos, and ending at night with the track ‘Free Me’, which depicts otherwise known as ‘Lasgidi’. The track displays the UK-based talent basking in praising the woman he loves by showering her with sweet and tender affirmations.

‘Soh-Soh’, written by Odeal himself and produced by PD (Precious Divine) and Randay, is a track that calls for slow dancing, as Odeal recalls the competition he faces in order to win the woman he loves. This track, against ‘ONOME’, another track which Odeal self-wrote, produced by Ozedikus, has been labelled as the song of the summer, with streams skyrocketing after a much-anticipated release following Odeal's teasing with snippets of the track on his various social media platforms.

The penultimate track of the EP, ONOME, Odeal wears his heart on his sleeve with the blended West African Pidgin English, mixed with Yoruba to create colourful imagery as he sings about his ‘treasure’, the one woman he truly adores.

The Sunday spent at Zuri’s closes off with the track ‘Free Me’, produced by Black Culture and Yimeeka, a track where Odeal explores what peace of mind looks like to him.

It’s safe to say that Odeal has established himself as a talent and a name to remember in the UK RnB scene, and ahead of his headline show, as part of the ‘Thoughts I Never Said Tour’, he will be performing in the UK on November 19th, 2024.
