Sofascore’s Player of the Season Awards Premiere on CBS

A new type of football award is here; one that measures performances by objective data rather than subjective debate. This summer, the first ever Sofascore Player of the Season Award Show premiered on CBS after being filmed in Zadar during Croatia’s Sunset Sports Festival.

The ceremony spotlighted Europe’s top performers across the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and beyond, all determined by Sofascore’s objective match ratings. No votes or panels involved, the awards reflected only what happened on the pitch.

Among the winners, Mohamed Salah led the Premier League with an average rating of 7.78, Raphinha topped LaLiga with 7.80 (and claimed the Champions League honor), Mattia Zaccagni emerged as Serie A’s standout with 7.34, Joshua Kimmich earned Bundesliga’s highest mark with 7.91, and Achraf Hakimi was Ligue 1’s best at 7.76. Women’s football and other global competitions were also recognised, reinforcing Sofascore’s commitment to measuring the game comprehensively.

The broadcast was hosted by Kate Scott and Peter Schmeichel, with direction from Emmy Award winner Pete Radovich. Analysis and insights came from a panel of football greats including Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards, and Alessandro Del Piero. On stage, Raphinha expressed pride at earning both LaLiga and Champions League recognition, while Luka Modrić was honored with Sofascore’s first Founders’ Legend Award.

The audience included notable figures such as Dimitar Berbatov, UFC champion Stipe Miočić, and Croatian international Šime Vrsaljko.

Extending the celebration beyond television, Sofascore launched billboard campaigns across Europe. From Liverpool and Barcelona to Munich and Rome, the season’s top players were showcased in their home cities, emphasising the global reach of the award.

By grounding recognition in performance data, Sofascore positions its Player of the Season trophy as a distinctive alternative in the football award landscape. Every goal, pass, and tackle is counted, and reputation alone can no longer tip the scales.
