Sitting On The Far Side of Heartbreak, Samm Henshaw Wants To 'Get Back'

“How do we get back?” is the main question asked by Samm Henshaw on his return with his new single, ‘Get Back’. It could mean a lot of things; it could mean how to get back to better times during the earlier honeymoon stages of a fracturing relationship.

It could also refer to how, in a streaming-dominated world, where we have to over-promote our work, and also when we demand more from artists in the modern world, we should let them simply be, and so we all can get back to enjoying music for music’s sake.

This could be because in a digital world, Samm is doing something interesting to promote his sophomore album, It Could Be Worse, where you will find ‘Get Back’ as well as the sweetly sung ‘Find My Love’ featuring Tori Kelly. He’s doing a vinyl-only release next month on the 21st of November with a plan for a digital release in early 2026.

The face value meaning of the song, is more a reminder to cherish your experiences. “You’re looking back at a time that you had maybe taken for granted, and you want to get back to that place,” Samm reflects.

‘Get Back’, at its core, though it filled with Samm’s soulful drawl. He’s very much human, as he expresses deep feelings of regret and loss. He seems to haunt the track, produced by Josh Grant, as he wonders how to get back to better days, as if confused about which route to take.  He longs for a time he never really appreciated.

In the instrumentation, piano keys led us in, and then we are abandoned for 70s-style retro synths to produce a nostalgic and trippy out-of-space melody, backed by raw drums to reflect the mood of Sam.

Overall, it sounds incredibly new but also familiar as Samm makes tweaks to his sound, and if this is an indication of what’s to come, Tidy Soul will have a worthy successor.
