Seoul Asked — and Ye Delivered a Sold-Out Spectacle

Often regarded as one of hip hop’s most controversial figures, Kanye West—known as ‘Ye’—continues to sell out arenas worldwide. Earlier this month, he lit up Shanghai before returning to Seoul. His growing connection with the country set the stage for an unforgettable night, leaving a lasting impression on the 50,000 fans lucky enough to witness it.

It had been just under 12 months since Ye last graced the stage in Korea, where he debuted his ‘VULTURES’ listening party alongside Ty Dolla $ign at Goyang Stadium in a night that fans will never forget. That experience clearly left a mark on him, as his return to Korea this past Saturday marked his first solo performance anywhere in the world in over nine years.

The stage was designed as a massive dome, inspired by his favourite movie, Akira—specifically the moment when the city implodes. A similar kind of energy hit the stadium as Ye stepped out to the sound of ‘Power’ blasting through the speakers. Most of the crowd might not speak fluent English, but the second that beat dropped, they all spoke his language.

After opening with a handful of classics to set the tone, Ye dove straight into his VULTURES era, performing high-energy cuts like ‘CARNIVAL’ and ‘STARS.’ From there, he rewound to the 2010s, running through a stacked line-up of tracks from 'Watch the Throne,' 'Yeezus,' 'The Life of Pablo,' and 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.'

Towards the end of the show, Ye performed some of his most iconic tracks, including ‘Flashing Lights,’ ‘Stronger,’ and ‘Runaway.’ After nearly three hours on stage in soaring heat, the crowd took matters into their own hands, helping Ye sing along—videos of which are now rapidly going viral online.

Overall, Ye brought unforgettable energy to Korea, likely boosted by his family in attendance that night. North West even made a special appearance on stage, and there was a touching moment at the end when a dove landed beside him—a symbol he often associates with his late mother, Donda.
