ODUMODUBLVCK Releases New Song ‘PAY ME’ as a Peek into His Forthcoming Debut Album 'INDUSTRY MACHINE'

Less than six months after the release of his second mixtape, THE MACHINE IS COMING, Nigerian rapper ODUMODUBLVCK strikes again with his new single ‘PAY ME’ featuring fellow Nigerian rapper Zlatan and British-Ghanaian rapper Stormzy,

‘PAY ME’ serves as a preview of the forthcoming debut album INDUSTRY MACHINE and single marks the second time that ODUMODUBLVCK brought Zlatan on a song after the former’s breakout single ‘PICANTO’ released in November 2022.

On the flipside, this track also sees a first-time collaboration between the Nigerian rapper and Stormzy, thereby showing the former’s growth in the UK entertainment industry.

Emerging Nigerian producer King Scarr, layers the beat, bringing an interesting perspective to the song. The sonic work samples Nollywood veteran Mama g’s 2024 song ‘Jolly Forget Your Sorrow’ featuring fellow onscreen stars Tonto Dike and Charles Awurum.

ODUMODUBLVCK starts the song with the hook, while Stormzy handles the first verse, and Zlatan follows on the second verse. Themed on finances and erotic escapades, the track takes a unique turn. Despite being the main artist, ODUMODUBLVCK doesn’t have a verse on the song; he handles only the hook.

Directed by Canada-based English director This Was Needed, the visuals spotlight the song’s trio trying to withdraw money from a standalone ATM in a room. Rather than give out cash, the ATM dished out jabs in the form of screen messages to the trio, including pressing statements like “Ah ah, is it by force?” With a number of failed attempts at withdrawing cash, the trio bombed the money machine.

Following his two successful mixtapes, this new drop is a peek into his debut album INDUSTRY MACHINE, which is still in the works. With groundbreaking statistics backing his two chart-topping mixtapes, his debut album is expected to be nothing short of a masterpiece.

His 2023 debut mixtape EZIOKWU is the longest-running No. 1 Rap Album in Spotify Nigeria history and the longest charting Rap Album in Nigerian history, spending over 50 weeks in the Top 10.

This year’s mixtape THE MACHINE IS COMING, further propelled the rapper by debuting at No. 1 for a second time in his home country and broke into the UK Hip-Hop Apple Albums Top 10, a rare crossover for Nigerian rap. An icing on the cake, he was also listed in the Dazed 100 & Rolling Stone US’s Future 25 in the same year.

With a promising motion in Nigerian rap and a global spotlight, ODUMODUBLVCK’s impending INDUSTRY MACHINE is one to be on the lookout for.
