Masego's Bold Return with New Album 'Fix Your Face'

GRAMMY-nominated Masego is back with a new album, Fix Your Face, releasing on July 17th.

His first single 'Breathe' alongside its music video marks the beginning of something new for Masego, a bold change in his musical trajectory. The track was written as he juggled his fast moving career with deep personal loss, and its rhythmic choices and masterful lyricism embody this. There is an audible tension between the grief he feels, and the professionalism of his career. The music video retains this intense shift for the artist, using black-and-white visuals to signal the feeling behind the song. Its clear jazz influence paired with the artists' distinct soul and R&B style shines through.

His new project is less about reinventing his style as an artist, however. Instead, it is about reframing what he has already built for himself. As he moves away from the charm that we expect from music, we are faced with an emotional and personal exposure. This is the first project where he has written down his lyrics prior to recording, evidence of his growth.

Earlier this month, he unveiled his 40+ date Fix Your Face Tour, his first headlining run in almost three years.

Masego has amassed nearly two billion global streams, with RIAA Platinum and Gold certifications across multiple continents. His breakout single “Tadow” with FKJ is certified Platinum in the U.S., Diamond in Brazil, and Gold in Mexico, and his project Studying Abroad: Extended Stay earned him his first GRAMMY® nomination.

After relocating to Salvador, Brazil following a traumatic fire which resulted in him losing his home, he was forced to confront what remained in front of him. There is an artistry behind his work that is researched and knowledgable, reportedly referring to Mary J. Blige, D'Angelo and PartyNextDoor as artists who revealed their true selves in their work. There is a lyrical and sonic connection to his mentality, and to Jamaica, a place that reconnects him to home. The trust behind his music, simply letting it flow and expose the struggles of such a bold figure moves away from public image, into something raw and personal.

Every song in this album is a stand alone story, but listening to them consecutively is such a beautiful experience. Driven by soul, it is rare an album on the first listen is as hooking as this one. The genius use of reverb, layered vocals and harsh bass, Masego has used this album to experiment with what music truly can do, and he did not miss.
