M.C. Overalls and artist Tim Head return with their second zingy collaboration for 2022.
Words by Coraly Langué.
M.C. Overalls are kicking off the year with a refreshingly optimistic take for 2022. The British workwear brand has developed their second collaborative capsule with artist Tim Head, scheduled for release in February of this year. Head, a multi-hyphenate artist based in London and Barcelona, is no stranger to streetwear collaborations, having previously worked with the likes of Carhartt and Nike.
Titled ‘UNITY’, the central concept behind the collection is simple; to encourage and uplift inclusivity and diversity within the community. As such, the M.C.Overalls x Tim Head collaboration will be donating a percentage of the proceedings to London-based charities Safe House London and DanceWest. For Head, this collaboration was also an opportunity to revisit rave culture and further expand on feelings of freedom and togetherness. These emotions were made particularly poignant to Head while spending lockdown in Whitstable, as the artist toyed with a desire for escape and nonchalance.
It is the greyscale beaches of Whitstable that encouraged Tim to develop a bright and boisterous colour palette, one that we can find on each of the individually upcycled hand-crafted pieces. Working with source fabric from previous collections, Tim’s work expands over 31 pieces, and utilises silhouettes that are synonymous to the brand such as work jackets and overalls.“With M.C. Overalls, we worked hard in bringing this vision to life and I am super proud,” says the artist, “From the one of one pieces to the graphic range,I wanted to design a capsule using existing MCO fabrics that serve as a genuine ‘future nostalgia’ to the 90s rave scene as well as doing my bit to unite unnecessary division”.
M.C. Overalls has long since been a champion of the everyday. The company finds its beginnings in 1908 in Middlesex, London, creating “durable uniforms for contemporary workers”. It comes as no surprise that a company with altruistic ideals would seek to give back to its local community in ways that are sustainable and constructive, and by way of fashion. Both of the participating charities cater to social issues within their local communities.
Safe House London, founded by Hackney resident Bisola Popoola, organises workshops, events and sessions specifically targeted at the younger community, in a bid to provide them with a safe space to enjoy as well as raise awareness about youth violence. Over in West London, DanceWest was founded in 2015 by choreographer Rosie Whitney-Fish, and provides weekly classes across seven West London boroughs. The charity was founded as a response to local and social issues and, following the pandemic, has been providing online content and programmes.
Ultimately, this collaboration is an example in caring for your local community. As we slowly readapt to shared spaces, UNITY is a lesson in celebrating brightness, colour and togetherness.
