Free of pressure. Free of expectation. Free of doubt,  Little Simz returns with her latest single ‘Free’ as she explores the freedom found when you love boldly.

Thoughtful and touching, ‘Free’ was an idea born as a poem, and then built out, by using expansive instrumentation to curate a sound produced by Miles Clinton James. A rhythmic bass guitar faithfully guides us, backed by a drum, and angelic strings that filter in and out.

That space just described invites honesty, vulnerability and, more powerfully, forgiveness as she sorts through her musing - providing reasoning and solutions to the manifestation of fear but ultimately returning to love, demonstrating introspection and emotional intelligence.

“Love will never judge you because of your pain,” Simz raps over the instrumentation and lines such as “I think that love is understanding that people can change/And loving them anyway through every stage” hit with a relatable clarity.

‘Free’ is the second single released in the build-up to her sixth album, Lotus,  which will be released on May 9th via AWAL Recordings. Lotus explores renewal and growth, as we witness the continuation of the personal and artistic journey that Simz has partaken.

The Brit Awards, MOBOs, 2021’s Mercury Music Prize, and Ivor Novello winner will be curating the 30th edition of The Southbank Centre’s music festival, Meltdown, which will run from June 12th-22nd and  will include include The Streets,  Sasha Keable, Lola Young,  Ghetts, and  Jon Bapiste.
