Lily Williams Shares Intricate Pop Gem “Happy For You”

Coming back into the spotlight with her first single this year, Lily Williams has just shared her brand new single “Happy For You,“ coming alongside a cute music video. A singer and songwriter from London, Lily Williams recently graduated from Berklee College of Music, and is now based in LA, focusing full time on her buzzing music career.

"Happy For You" is Lily William’s first single of the year and follows 2020’s “Lego Bricks“ alongside Euan Allison, that amassed over 1 million streams on Spotify since its release. Out via Frequency Recordings, “Happy For You” is a stellar indie-pop gem, driven by subtle melodies and Lily William’s tender voice, touching on people’s dating experiences when they’re young, and how getting over a breakup is complicated.

"The whole concept of this song came from the first line 'I heard you met a nice girl on the internet, and you stopped smoking cigarettes.' The 'nice girl' refers to your ex moving on with someone new and 'quitting cigarettes' is a metaphor for breaking bad habits. We wrote this song about the selfish feeling of trying and failing to be happy for someone that is better off without you. Even if you know the best thing is for the relationship to end, it still hurts to see someone you loved doing great with a whole new person and a whole new life that doesn't include you in it," explains Lily Williams.
