Lancey Foux Is Defying All Expectation On The Time Of Our Lives

There has always been something deliberately unpredictable about Lancey Foux. For more than a decade, he has built a world around himself that refuses to sit still, one where excess, vulnerability and experimentation constantly collide. Now, as he closes out his twenties, Lancey returns with THE TIME OF OUR LIVES, an album that present a celebration of everything that came before and a conscious decision to leave it behind.

The title is fitting. THE TIME OF OUR LIVES arrives at the end of a defining decade for Lancey, but it never sounds overly concerned with nostalgia. Instead, the album looks at the past from a distance, taking stock of the experiences, relationships, ambition and chaos that have shaped him while keeping its focus firmly on what comes next.

The project follows a run of singles that Lancey shared with fans over the past few months, including “BODY,” “ROCKSTAR RIDER,” “ALL THE TIME” and “CHANGE YOUR MIND.” These singles offered an early glimpse into the album's constantly shifting identity. “BODY” moves through a smoother, alternative R&B space, while “ROCKSTAR RIDER” embraces the distorted, high-energy intensity that has become synonymous with Lancey's more aggressive records. “ALL THE TIME” brings a sense of movement and celebration, while “CHANGE YOUR MIND” turns inward, adding a more vulnerable dimension to the story.

That sense of contradiction runs throughout the album. Lancey doesn't commit to one sound, mood or version of himself. Trap sits alongside alternative R&B; dance music collides with Afro-influenced rhythms; melodic moments suddenly give way to harder, more chaotic production. The result is an album that is intentionally difficult to categorise and interested in creating its own space within it.

The production reflects that ambition. Working with longtime collaborators including snypes, Vuko, Lee, Jay Trench, Hiko Momoji and others, as well as contributing to the production himself, Lancey constructs a soundscape that feels as restless as his creative identity. Finessekid also features on the project, adding another UK centric layer to an album built around movement and collaboration.

But underneath the experimentation is something considerably more personal. On tracks such as “Miss the Night” and “Trying My Best,” Lancey allows the bravado to fall away. There is an awareness of what happens when the noise stops, when the parties, relationships, ambition and constant movement leave you alone with yourself. Elsewhere, songs like “Therapist” and “Everything Works Out” continue that internal conversation, balancing uncertainty with a belief that there is still somewhere better to go.

It's this tension between celebration and reflection that gives THE TIME OF OUR LIVES its weight. Lancey on this album questions the identity that comes with the end of his twenties.

“People will project onto me what they want me to be,” Lancey notes. “I think that's what I'm running away from all the time. When everyone turns one way, I look to go in a whole new direction altogether.”

The statement feels like a key to understanding the album. Lancey's instinct has never been to follow the obvious route. When a sound becomes expected, he changes it. When an aesthetic becomes familiar, he moves on. And when people begin to understand exactly who they think Lancey Foux is, he gives them something else.
