Knucks Announces Sophomore Album A Fine African Man With New Single “Gold Tooth” Featuring Blaqbonez

UK rap powerhouse Knucks today unravels the next chapter in his musical journey with the announcement of his sophomore album A Fine African Man (AFAM), set for release on October 31. Leading the charge is the new single “Gold Tooth,” featuring Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez, a track that merges introspection with playful storytelling while probing the dualities of value and identity.

“Gold Tooth” explores the paradox of gold, both as a symbol of wealth and a decorative commodity. The record unpacks its role in modern society: a powerful, often exploitative trade commodity on one hand, and a cultural signifier of pride, adornment, and self-expression on the other. The accompanying visual reinforces this duality, presenting Knucks as a gold miner who manages to sidestep the brutal realities associated with gold extraction across Africa. While laced with a playful tone, the video carries an intentional weight, highlighting the uneasy intersections between global exploitation and personal aspiration.

“Gold Tooth” is the perfect entry point into A Fine African Man, an album that traces Knucks’ evolution from London-raised artist to one deeply rooted in his Nigerian identity. Building on the foundation of his celebrated debut Alpha Place, the project expands Knucks’ scope, interrogating themes of identity, inherited shame, masculinity, cultural alienation, and ultimately, ancestral pride.

The album’s title is a direct nod to Knucks’ birth name, Afam — an Igbo name meaning “My Name Is My Name.” Speaking on the project, Knucks reflects: “A Fine African Man, or AFAM. The Igbo name given to me by my family. Afamefuna: ‘May my name not be forgotten.’ This project is two years in the making. Two years of writing, thinking, living. Long nights in studios from London, to Jamaica, to Nigeria. I see this one as a continuation of Alpha Place — another side of who I am. I’m born and raised in London, but so much of who I am is because of my Nigerian heritage and the time I spent there during one of the most pivotal years of my life.”

The announcement follows the success of Knucks’ recent single “Cut Knuckles” and reaffirms his reputation as one of UK rap’s most incisive and innovative voices. With “Gold Tooth” setting the tone, A Fine African Man promises to be a landmark release one bridginng continents, generations, and cultures.
