Khamari returns with 'Head In A Jar'

Los Angeles-based soulful R&B artist Khamari has released his latest single, ‘Head In A Jar’, along with a visualiser for the new track. Singing against a melodic guitar riff, the Boston native explores themes of entrapment surrounding an old lover who has gone on their own way.

“When you first hear the song, you might think the lyrics are about two people in the same room. As the song progresses, I want you to realise that it’s a situation where you’re an observer watching someone move through their day-to-day life,” Khamari says on the track. The multi-instrumentalist deals with a lack of closure, as the striking simplicity of the guitar riff carries his vocals, juxtaposing the complex lyrical material of the track.

The accompanying visual sees Khamari in a dim waiting room, which represents the emotional seclusion that often accompanies the deep ntrospection that the singer-songwriter cultivates on ‘Head In A Jar’.

“Head in a Jar is a metaphor for being part of someone's life, but from a greater distance than you would like” he also says. Dealing delicately with grieving unfortunate realities that parting ways with a past lover brings into someone's life, he has displayed that his sonical storytelling is still more than capable of provoking thoughts within all his listeners.

Almost two years removed from his highly successful album A Brief Nirvana, Khamari has returned to the R&B space, ready to invoke his listeners once again with narration and lush instrumentation that has defined him as more than a rising star within the genre. The album, having had more than 125 million cumulative streams since its release, demonstrate that Khamari’s listeners are ready to receive new music since their wait.

His return comes with clarity, expectation for his bright future, and satisfaction knowing that while time has passed, his ability to deal with the complex topics with his gentle candour and narration has remained the same.
