JayO Returns With Nostalgic Single ‘Turning Me On’

ree

British-Nigerian artist JayO shares his latest Afro-R&B slow burner ‘Turning Me On’ as he explores the intimacy of nightclub settings.

His first release of the year, ‘Turning Me On’ samples Marques Houston’s R&B classic 'Clubbin' released in 2003, which undeniably has a nostalgic feel-good feel to it.

However, JayO breathes new life into the record by favouring rustic and warm guitar patterns that provide a cosy feel that encourages intimacy.

Expressive, seductive and smooth, The North Londoner slows it now with a low simmering and languid approach. His voice cruises over the nourishing textured beat, which at times threatens to overcrowd it. He sings, “Vex me the way you love to flirt/ she an angel in Prada/ we starting the party or partying after/what would you rather?”

JayO worked with Fellow British-Nigerian production duo Sons of Sonix on the track, and speaking about the creative process he said: “They played ‘Clubbin’ and the rest was history. ‘Turning Me On’ was made”.

The accompanying video, directed by Jonny Cooke, reflects the sexual tension from both the lyrics and feel of the track. “I make music that makes people feel good” he said. “That you can play at a party, or alone, and still feel something.”
