J Hus And Asake Join Forces On Explosive New Track ‘GOLD’

Off the back of his sold out ‘Big Conspiracy’ five year anniversary show at The Royal Albert Hall last week, one of the nation’s favourite rappers J Hus has teamed up with the rising Nigerian superstar Asake to drop the single ‘Gold’. This electrifying, upbeat and ambitious track encompasses everything to do with cultural pride, strength and representation.

Produced by P2J, the Grammy-winning producer who also was responsible for J Hus’ ‘Who Told You’ featuring Drake back in 2023, the track couples the quintessential lyrics and mood of J Hus with Asake’s soaring inflections and compelling Yoruba-infused melodies to create something unique but globally enticing. J Hus’ iconic expletives, witty and rebellious words set the tone of this piece, but are pierced by Asake’s more melodic, softer tones to produce a versatile and striking body of work.

You sense a carnivalistic atmosphere throughout, with lyrics such as ‘every ring I’m wearing is gold, they’re calling me Gaddafi’, almost feels like a chant or a call that pleads for an answer. J Hus resembles that of a gifted narrator who breaks down the fourth wall. A track that is a rhythmic and memorable one, the two artists combine in a celebration of musical excellence.

The release also marks a new phase of Hus’ journey as he teams up with the largest global independent label EMPIRE. With a change in label, we can expect a new era of Hus slowly introduced into the world.

The collaboration marks a powerful moment for diasporic connection, setting the tone for a landmark summer.

‘Gold’ breaks the boundaries of musical excellence, while also being a statement of intent.
