Headie One Combines Football and Road On New Single ‘Bellingham’

Football and rap music have enjoyed a close relationship over the years. Whether it clever metaphors, double entandres, similes, cheeky word play or any other creative sporting-related reference, the two in the UK live side by side, so it’s no surprise that Headie One returns with brand new single ‘Bellingham’.

Named in honour of Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham, the north Londoner has previously also released tracks ‘Kylian Mbappe’, who also plays for the Spanish giants and also former Arsenal legend and Premier League legendary bagsman ‘Thierry Henry’ featuring 36.

Whilst ‘Kylian Mbappe’ incorporates a more high-energy feel and ‘Thierry Henry’, ‘Bellingham’, released via One Records/The Orchard, is built from the sounds of Baile Funk horns and kept together by pure distorted bass.

Adopting his unmistakable flow, Headie, across the skippy beat reveals the pressure he felt to conform to a certain sound earlier on in his career to reach mainstream success in a bid to escape the streets.

However, he cannot help but playfully depict the lifestyle he has now left using those previously mentioned football lines. Headie raps: “My man said he got hammers for sell again, I ain’t Jude but I bet you I’m bellin’ him.”

The official music video, shot in Madrid by acclaimed director Don Prod, who has worked with Central Cee, Nemzzz, and Fredo in the past.

Last year, Headie One released his third studio album The Last One, and this recent string of releases shows that he will continue to build on this great experiment.
