Get to Know: Kwamz Original

London based DJ and producer Kwamz Original has built his reputation through energy, connection, and an instinctive understanding of how to move a crowd. Known for blending Afrobeats, Amapiano, Dancehall, Hip Hop, R&B, and UK sounds into explosive high energy sets, he has become one of the rising DJs helping shape Afro inspired party culture across the UK.

From viral CULTUR FM clips to his growing reputation across nightlife, Kwamz Original’s rise has been driven as much by authenticity as talent. Whether online or behind the decks, his focus has always remained the same: creating unforgettable experiences through music.

Music first entered his life at a young age. He began DJing around 14 after becoming fascinated by the atmosphere DJs could create and the way music could completely transform a room. Before fully stepping into DJing, he was a dancer first, something that played a major role in shaping his understanding of rhythm, movement, and performance.

Growing up in North West London heavily influenced the way he approaches music today. Surrounded by different cultures, sounds, and communities, versatility naturally became part of his identity as a DJ. Long before his success, Kwamz describes himself as determined, focused, energetic, and intense, always wanting to stand out creatively rather than follow what everybody else was doing.

While DJing initially started as a passion, one early moment made things feel more serious. After his first party booking, he realised the power DJs have to completely shift the mood of a room. What started through small parties and opportunities slowly became something bigger as more people connected with both his energy and the way he played music.

“If I’m able to bring all these people into one room, then this is definitely something I can see myself doing for a very long time,” he says.

During those early stages, Kwamz was also surrounded by figures who helped sharpen his vision and confidence as a DJ. One of those people was DJ EDott, who played an important mentorship role throughout his development. Watching E Dott’s approach to music and crowd control helped shape Kwamz’s understanding of DJ culture and nightlife.

For Kwamz, DJing has never just been about playing songs. He sees music as something that can shift emotions, change energy, and help people temporarily escape whatever stress or pressure they walked into the room carrying.

“You’re able to take away four or five hours of whatever somebody’s going through just through the power of music,” he explains.

That mindset became even more important during lockdown, a period that would ultimately change the trajectory of his career. Like many creatives, Kwamz admits his mental health suffered when everything suddenly stopped. At one stage, he even questioned whether he wanted to continue DJing at all. Instead of withdrawing, he turned to music and began hosting Instagram Live DJ sessions that quickly exploded online.

What started as a way to stay connected soon became a viral movement. Thousands of people tuned in regularly, with some livestreams reaching close to 10,000 viewers at their peak. Friday night sessions became routine and the momentum eventually translated into real life demand, bookings, and opportunities that pushed his name far beyond social media. For many viewers, the livestreams became a genuine lockdown escape.

That same online momentum helped introduce wider audiences to the Kwamz Original experience. Viral moments, crowd interactions, and his instinctive style behind the decks all played a role in building a strong community around his brand. Part of why people connect so strongly with his sets, he believes, is because he approaches the crowd as though he is part of it himself.

“I feel like I’m my own audience,” he says.

That connection also comes through in the way he mixes. Kwamz has become known for blending commercial records with Afrobeats, Dancehall, and unexpected edits in ways audiences do not always anticipate. Rather than playing things safe, he enjoys finding combinations that feel fresh, energetic, and different.

As Afro inspired music continues dominating globally, Kwamz sees this era as an important cultural moment not just for artists, but for DJs helping carry the sound into spaces worldwide. Growing up in London heavily shaped that perspective. Earlier in his career, his sets were much faster because of the environments around him, but over time he learned the importance of pacing, timing, and reading energy rather than constantly rushing through moments.

Outside of music, grounding himself has become just as important as chasing success. He credits both God and his long term relationship as major sources of stability throughout his journey. As a carer for his mother and cousin, family and close relationships continue shaping the way he approaches life and career decisions. Away from DJing, he also describes himself as a self confessed nerd who enjoys technology, YouTube, gaming culture, anime, and computers.

Now, years after first getting behind the decks, Kwamz is entering a completely new chapter. Recent headline events selling out within minutes have become defining moments in his journey so far, reinforcing how strongly audiences connect with both his energy and identity as a DJ. For him, seeing people specifically buy tickets for his name and energy made everything feel significantly more real.

When asked how he would describe a Kwamz Original set to someone experiencing it for the first time, his answer comes instantly.

“Intense. In your face.”

Despite being recognised as a multi genre DJ and a “jack of all trades,” Afrobeats remains the genre most closely connected to Kwamz’s identity. While his sets move fluidly across sounds and generations, African music continues to sit at the heart of his approach and shapes the energy he brings into every room.

Artists including Afro B, P Montana, DopeNation, Wizkid, Davido, Sarkodie, King Promise, and DJs like DJ Dynamichave all played a role in shaping his musical taste and approach to DJing.

Kwamz believes memorable DJ sets come from passion, creativity, and the willingness to take risks rather than simply playing things safe.

“If you’re playing with your heart and soul, that’s what makes you memorable,” he explains.

Looking ahead, Kwamz sees far more than just local success. Producing more music, larger stages, international opportunities, and more events are all part of the vision. While the UK remains home, he believes there is a much bigger picture still ahead globally. He also hopes to continue building his own events and creating spaces that leave lasting memories and genuine connections with people.

With sold out headline events and momentum continuing to build, Kwamz Original is quickly becoming one of the names helping push London’s Afro inspired nightlife scene into a new era. Through high energy live sets, community driven experiences, and a genuine passion for music, he represents a generation of DJs redefining what nightlife culture can feel like. And if recent success is anything to go by, this is only the beginning.
